    • I bet it was awesome in the early 80s!

      Reviewed 28 September 2019

The staff was wonderful. They welcomed us and couldn't have been nicer. Unfortunately the room was old and not well appointed. I expected the same quality as the Lodge next door and it wasn't even close. The bathroom was so small we could barely turn around in it. No balcony, a television the size of my laptop, pillows that were the worst ever and basically uncomfortable. I was told there are much nicer units and this was the owners fault. I wouldn't have stayed here if I had known this.

    • Nice property but reservation policy deceptive

      Reviewed 25 August 2019

I am rating this property very good because we received a spacious, nicely renovated, clean 2 bedroom/3 bathroom unit on the 6 floor. The gym (the one at the adjoining hotel) and the pool/hot tubs are very nice, parking and a small but adequate continental breakfast are included. The location is perfect - great in the summer and I am sure even better in the winter. The biggest issue I have is that when making a reservation, they refuse to send pictures or confirm which unit you are reserving. I now understand why - some of the units are significantly better than others - some much more renovated than others and the locations vary dramatically. We faced the town but also overlooked the parking lot. There is a huge air compressor between the Lodge Tower and the hotel which make it impossible to keep your windows open because of the noise. Some units don't even have a/c. I heard one employee say that they can't rent some of the first floor units because some don't have a/c and the noise from the compressor is too loud for windows to be kept open. Even on the 6th floor, the noise was very loud. We got lucky because it wasn't very busy, but for this reason I will not rent here again. For the price I am paying and if you know you have availability, you definitely should be able to confirm the unit I will be receiving with pictures and a description. By not doing this, you (the Lodge and reservations) are being deceptive. I am sure most people reserving are surprised (good or bad) when they see what they are getting. The reservations agents are cagey and refuse to be specific because they know some units are much more desirable than others. If you are going to take my reservation, I deserve to know which unit I will be in and you should be required to send pictures. I am surprised more people don't discuss this issue on Tripadvisor. Otherwise, our stay was quite nice.

    • Family Vacation!!

Excellent location, beautiful pool, & very friendly staff!! Just beware that our gold condo was not updated, but was still extremely clean. Maybe pay a little extra for the platinum level condos. Otherwise a wonderful stay!! The kids loved parking our rental bikes in the condo garage:)

    • Ski trip spring break

Im going to start out by saying this is my FIRST EVER negative review on TripAdvisor. We thoroughly enjoyed Vail and for the most part enjoyed our stay at the Lodge Tower. We will be back to Vail, but not go back to the Lodge tower. Everything was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly. We were definitely scammed by their room level ratings though. Im writing this because it is my hope no one else gets scammed. I paid an extra $1200+ for a platinum level room which we did NOT get...based on their website description. Our room was 686. They claimed that an outside agency rated their rooms, but refused to tell us how it was rated, what made it platinum, etc. Im posting pictures of our room and their description and you can form your own opinion. It took three times for us to complain and ask about the level of our room for the manager to offer us $125 of free parking and gave us one room choice to switch to. This was 2 days into our trip and we were settled into our room already. It would have been extremely hard to move at that point plus the one room they offered was no better than the one we were in. Throughout our stay, we saw several rooms with wood floors, nice decor, and up to date appliances. We did NOT have this. I booked direct with a Lodge tower employee who guaranteed the room we were booking was exquisite. Needless to say, she lied. Whats funny is I have proof that they switch the room ratings at their whim. Photo attached of an email from them also. DO NOT STAY HERE UNLESS THEY SEND YOU PICTURES OF THE ROOM. Which they refused to do when I asked. There are too many other wonderful choices in Vail for you to settle and possibly get scammed. FYI We had 80s green and red decor throughout. Old white appliances, lights burnt out, green wallpaper, plaid curtains next to the flowered bedding, and nasty carpets throughout. Room was definitely a gold rating based on their description and they should have refunded us the $1200 overpayment.
