    • The pirates of Costa

"I immedeatly felt at home", we heard another guest say. Ahhh, she too, we were thinking. Maura and Giacomo know the art of making everybody feel at home - no matter where they come from. And at the Locanda you find a mix of interesting people you seldom find down at the lake. Nature lovers, people who prefer the quiet, who like listening to bird songs, inspect the many wild flowers, enjoy the stars and the myriads of fire flies. On the cosy terasse in front of the Locanda you easily start a conversation with strangers. A huge blackboard on the wall lists the dishes for the day. We met guests who since 11 days refused to try out any other restaurant. "Why go anywhere else when you can eat like that", they explain and point at the blackboard. We had planned to cook ourselves, but quickly gave up on that idea. Rabbit, filled noodles, sardines, risotto, deliciously prepared vegetables, osso bucco ... - all prepared in a down to earth mountain style with an adventurous twist. Before we forget, on Friday evening, Maura and Giacommo heat the pizza oven, it is pizza night. We recommend the gorgonzola and apple pizza. We came here first four years ago and see how the hosts come up with new ideas every year. Besides the new pizza oven, we found a new wine card and the announcement of an artisan beer tasting. Did we write enough about the food? No. The breakfast is stunning too. Maura raises early and bakes cakes for the breakfast buffet. One more delicious than the other. The freshly made bread is still warm, the yoghurt also home made, and with lots of fresh fruits and the local honey, you can prepare a healthy muesli. Or you prefer scrambled eggs, goat cheese, ham? No problem. We stayed at the appartment near by the Locanda, and really liked it there. There is a lot to do in the area if you like hiking, mountainbiking, motorbiking, chatting, practizing your Italian, horse riding, dosing in the sun or writing your next novel. It is a beautiful spot and Maura and Giacomo (and Enrica and Andrea) have created something unique and special in this small village. "Why is there a pirate flag in front of the house?" I asked Giacomo. "We sometimes like to do things a bit different"

We were a group of friends, did choose this place as base for Mountainbiking. Maura and Giacomo are great hosts, made us feel at home. The rooms are nice and very clean, the food is absolutely excellent! Costa is a quiet village in the hinterland of Lake Garda, ideally suited for hiking, biking or just a few days to relax. We definitely can recommend this place, it is an amazing value for the money!

    • A special place with lots of charme

We took a three hour winter hike to Cascina Nova (the description is on the website of the Locanda) and afterwards had lunch at Genzianella. You can have a drink at the bar, relax on the sofa, play cards, or - as we did - enjoy a good meal in the dining room. A fire was burning in the oven, the sun was shining through the window, and the hosts made us feel at home. We loved the pasta with bred filling in sage butter. Its a perfect place to come to when exploring the backcountry of lago di garda. We also took a look at the rooms (for our next stay :)). They are very cosy and all have a nice view of the valley.

    • Charming Rustic Village

Have you seen Wes Anderson's short "CASTELLO CAVALCANTI" ? That's what this small rustic village near Lake Garda in Costa up in the hills felt like ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b87B7zyucgI ) It's actually smaller and everyone was super friendly. The owners could not be nicer and more thoughtful. They accommodated our late arrival and fed us one of the best meals I had in Italy (100% serious!) We enjoyed their truffle pasta and homemade lasagna. The price of the meal was more than fair. Breakfast was an ample choice of dessert items (all tasty) and standard breakfast fare. I felt like I was staying at my grandmother's house! The rooms were dated, but quaint and clean. Our only criticism was that the beds were stiff and the linens were incredibly dated. The view from our balcony overlooked some of the park filled with excellent hiking. More charming were the cats. This was a pleasant surprise for being termed preferable for backpackers. I would recommend it to any budget travelers, but it's well worth visiting the restaurant for any day trip hiking the beautiful Lake Garda region. Many thanks to the kind staff for a memorable and enjoyable stay. They were just lovely!

    • Very friendly B&B!

I spent 3 days in this small and very relaxing location in Italy. Its quite a littele bit apart from all the tourists down on Lake Garda and thats what we were looking for. Its a 15 minute drive up into the mountains. Youll find a very countrylike, small village with a nice mountain view. From your patio you can watch cows feeding. You dont see much tourism. Most aof the people we met were locals, playing cards in any of the few Tarttorias. Its worth a trip. Try the kitchen! They offer very good pasta and also the breakfast ist delicous. Prosciutto... hmmmm!!! The owners are very friendly and create a home-atmosphere. Thumbs up! Note: People who are looking for design and style and a location on the shore of Lake Garda: Dont go there!
