    • Suits SHORT Business Trips only

We decided to do a short #emtpyesky trip after the Summer bushfires & visit some attractions in Canberra. My original booking was for The Brassey Hotel but due to storm damage & rain we were moved here. The good things: great location, great precinct with bars, bistros, restaurants, walk to National Library, National Gallery, Parliament House etc. Great Front of House staff - especially Kathryn, room is New York compact & very modern. No problem with that. The bathroom is a very clever design & use of space. I loved the Library facility & the eco ethos. The poor things: king bed has the worst mattress I've slept in when travelling; very soft, bottom sheet does not/cannot stay in place, no top sheet, if travelling as a couple one of you must climb over the other to get in & out of the bed, I could not sleep due to non-supportive mattress & bunching up of bedsheet, too hot to put quilt on & no other sheet or throw to use instead; inadequate seating in the room. I don't know how the Housekeeping staff safely (OHS) make the bed! Due to our stay being a further 3 nights, the unsupportive bed & the inconvenience of climbing in/over/out of it I requested a change to another hotel room in one of their sister Hotels. I must say the Hotel Reception staff were very receptive to this and handled the locating of alternate hotel impeccably. We really were impressed with their response and with the next hotel - The Burbery. I strongly recommend considering the Little National Hotel if you are on a short political or business trip - of 1 or 2 nights only. Doma have more comfortable rooms in 3 other hotels in this very vicinity.

    • Comfy and cosy

Modern, lush and cosy hotel, with the best bed ever. Honestly. And so cool it's like bay window bed. Hotel lounge and library are fantastic too, with great views. Housekeeping service was a little average, items not replaced or missing - like the robes.

    • Worst stay at Little National

The mattresses are way too soft. No support whatsoever. I only stayed one night. I couldn't get a decent night's sleep. I inquired with reception when checking out if all the rooms have these mattresses and was informed they do. The reason is that staff that make the beds cannot move around the bed, as they rooms are only as wide as the length of a the bed. So they have to have a light enough mattress to be able to lift it from one side of the bed to be able to make up the beds. It's an OH&S issue. Full points to the genius that thought this one through at design stage of the Hotel.

    • Just so comfortable - on so many levels

After a fraught trip I was so relieved to make it to my hotel. It was late and cold. The receptionist was just so lovely and welcoming. The room, yes it is small, but oh the bed and pillows! Just heavenly. To sleep whilst watching the supermoon rise and the stars shine or watch as the sky lights up in the morning is just wonderful. Everything is at your fingertips. The rain head shower is just perfect for sore bodies too. I didn't discover the coffee machine or the water taps in the library until the last day damnit but next time I will make use of them. The only issue is the lack of food services over a weekend but that's ok - that's forgiven. During the working week there is always the cafe right next door. Best smashed avo ever!

    • Probably not best for more than one night

      Reviewed 11 March 2020

A great little hotel, with good facilities, however if you plan on staying more than one night it becomes very tight on space. They have a great lounge and library, however if your stay includes a Sunday or Monday night, which ours included both, don't expect any of the services or facilities to be available. You can't get a drink in your own hotel on either of these nights, even the chocolates were removed from reception - its the small touches!
