he hotel is in a lovely and very handy location with beautiful views across the bay to the old town of Korcula which also happens to be in walking distance. The smallish seawater pool is very pleasant (although its temperature was refreshing even in mid-July) and we were surprised in July - to find plenty of empty sunbeds both around the pool and down by the sea (I wouldnt exactly call it a beach) although be aware of a man who hovers to charge people for the use of the sunbeds there. We found our secret spot just a few steps up from the pool where there was a terrace with four loungers which we had completely to ourselves, just steps up from the shower and with a lovely view over the town and pool! The breakfast spread was large, varied and excellent we especially loved all the different bread and bakery items. Bear in mind that it helps to take a proactive approach to life in Croatia. There is little point getting annoyed while waiting around to be seated and expecting somebody to ask you whether you wanted coffee We found it made life a lot easier to pick our own table, move used crockery to a side-table, pick our own cutlery, cups etc and get our own coffee from the machine. It was almost funny when our last morning a rather large gentleman in a black suit was overseeing proceedings and staff suddenly cleared tables and offered to bring coffee! We both enjoyed aromatherapy massages in the spa. Marina has truly golden hands! She is extremely knowledgeable and will find just the right pressure for all your tight spots. Dont expect golden buddhas or other spa paraphernalia this is very much a no-nonsense approach to spa services. The one thing Marina could do with is a receptionist so that people coming down to the spa to book appointments do not have to interrupt treatments. Where the hotel fell down for us was the lack of customer service. I had emailed the hotel beforehand to tell them that it was my 50th birthday but nobody took any notice. We had requested a quiet room on a high floor but were assigned room 106 (superior seaview room with balcony) which we found to be directly above the pool area. When we went to reception to explain that we really didnt enjoy screaming children from 8 am to sundown, reception staff were very reluctant to even check if a different room was available. They finally offered us 114, still on the first floor and smaller/less well equipped than 106, but at least quieter. We had to request a kettle (there had been one in 106) as I need to make myself a medicinal tea in the evening, which was eventually brought to our room, but we were never supplied with cups, sachets of coffee or teabags. The biggest problem was the fact that the a/c was not working unless it was reset by reception on a daily basis. This became a ritual. Good morning, our a/c is again not working. Can you reset it, please? The reason it is not working is because our system says you have the window open. No, we do not have the window open. As I explained to you yesterday (and the day before, and the day before that) the sensor in the window must be faulty. Hmmm Honestly, the sensor is faulty. Could you please reset the a/c? Hmm, ok. It became kind of tiresome, to say the least. To cut a long story short, the Liburna has all the prerequisites to be an excellent hotel if customer service could be improved all round. Maybe the large gentleman in the black suit should do more rounds around the property?

    • Disagree thoroughly with my father

My father clearly has no eyes, no sense of smell and no idea of class. The hotel was rubbish, yes breakfast was ok, however nothing more than average. The island was pretty however it doesnt mean there was anything to do, because there wasnt. Once exploring it, you were left with nothing to do. A one day trip, in a better hotel might be the best option. Their werent many restaurants, but my dad was just overly obsessed with the particular one nearby. The lunch options were very scarce, mainly being pizza. My father clearly doesnt know what hes talking about and is just trying to disagree even when he knows it was the worst place we as a family have ever been to.

Goodness knows which side of bed DadLovesThis got out of. True the corridors at the Hotel Libyans smelled of smoke and the pool was small. But the restaurant was spotless, breakfast good and staff friendly. There are lots of b good eating places nearby including the outstanding Radiona. Korcula old town is simply glorious and very much worth visiting when touring Croatian islands.
