If you want flunkeys and lackeys, 24/7 room service, and all modern amenities, this is probably not for you. But maybe youd prefer a beautifully renovated historic house, with superb views and a lovely hostess? If so, Thurnham Keep is definitely the place for you. It is of course a family home, not a hotel, but this adds to its charm and allure. Enjoy.

We were looking for a quiet stay in a rural setting in southern England and found Thurnham Keep on Trip Advisor. It was perfect ! Amanda is a wonderful hostess, breakfast was delicious, the house was/is beautiful, clean, and comfortable. Gorgeous view from our room (from any of the four rooms - theyre all nice). The Black Horse pub at the end of the drive was so good we went back again for dinner our second night. We spent a full day at wonderful Leeds Castle - a short distance away. Just cant say enough about how much we enjoyed Thurnham Keep and its delightful proprietors.

We had seen previous reviews of Thurnham Keep and decided to stay. We certainly have to agree, what a wonderful place to stay. We arrived at 3.30pm as wanted to make the most of our time there and it was a glorious sunny day. We were greeted warmly and shown to our beautiful room. We stayed in the Hever suite. It was stunning. The attention to detail was great. The views of the lovely well kept 7 acre grounds were amazing. We went to the conservatory to have our complementary scones with cream and jam, still warm. Amanda the host is so friendly you feel so at home. We then walked round the gardens. There is a pool which in October is closed but must be good in the summer. There's also a tennis court. We pre ordered our breakfast before going for a evening meal at the pub just at the end of the long drive. It's called The Black Horse. The steak was delicious and the staff very friendly. We booked way before our stay to ensure a table as popular. We slept so well in the impressive bed. So quiet too. We had breakfast at 8am and I must say it was the best I've had for a long time. It was all cooked to perfection, thank you Amanda. We really enjoyed our stay there and will definitely return in the summer. You are made to feel at home and nothing is too much trouble. Amanda and her husband are perfect hosts and do such a great job of making your stay special.

This is just such a lovely place to visit and stay. You are made to feel absolutely welcome. The scones on arrival were absolutely delicious. Massive bedrooms with period features. Breakfast was fantastic. The building itself is so beautiful. Top tip - in the evening, walk to the pub down the end of the drive for a very decent meal!! Really just lovely. Absolutely coming back.

Thurnham Keep is a stunningly beautiful period home owned by the interesting and super friendly Amanda. Our room (Leeds) was an absolute delight, very spacious and with many original features. We had a delicious cream tea on arrival, followed by a pleasant walk in the extensive gardens. We had taken Amanda's advice and pre booked dinner locally so a short walk down the drive was all that was necessary, the menu at the local inn was quite extensive and the food proved to be tasty. With regard to breakfast, the cooked items were chosen the evening before, there was a choice of traditional items, pancakes or croissants. The things we chose were delicious. We only stayed for one night on our way to France but it proved to be a very relaxing, indulgent start to our holiday and one which we can definitely recommend.
