Stayed one night when visiting family in the area. First impressions were the outside which left a lot to be desired. The car park is a disgrace with litter everywhere , smashed glass in more than one area (which looked like windscreen glass) which coupled with the we do not accept responsibility for any theft or damage notices everywhere didnt really bode well for a great first impression. We were worried about leaving the car all day. Room was okay. A little tired but roomy, clean and tidy which is what I give the stars for. Bed was okay, not particularly uncomfortable but not the best Ive ever slept in either. The biggest let down for us was the heat of the room which was so unbearable we could hardly breathe. Even taking into account it was probably one of the hottest weekends of the year we nearly got to the point where we felt like sleeping in the car. Wed brought along our own little fan and there was also a small one in the room but it didnt even make a difference. Ive never known heat like it, even abroad. We asked for another fan which we were provided with but even with three fans on full all night sounding like a helicopter landing, we hardly slept due to the heat. We did notice that the walls on one side of the room were hot and also the floor on that side and wondered whether we were in the room above the kitchen or maybe the boiler pipes running down our wall. Whatever it was they need to do something about it, or fit some kind of air conditioning. If Id have booked two nights Id have had to leave early it was that bad. For this reason I wouldnt book this hotel again.

Very disappointed. The positives of the hotel are:- 1. The bar & restaurant have been renovated to a modern feel 2. Close to the racecourse That is the only positives. The negatives are:- 1. The rooms are very tired & need a good makeover. 2. Cracked ceiling in the bedroom & bathroom. 3. Paintwork very grubby, desperately. Need cleaning & reprinting 4. Carpets are old & need cleaning or replacing 5. Mattress hard & uncomfortable 6. Room extremely hot & uncomfortable. No way of cooling it down 7. Car park is a disgrace. Full of weeds, litter, rubbish & generally very uninviting. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone & will definately not be booking here again

I have visited and stayed here four time already, and look forward to staying there again. The people who work at the Grand St. Ledger are helpful, friendly and attentive. The rooms are spotless and the beds comfortable. Thanks all for always giving me an enjoyable and refreshing stay.

    • The Grand st ledger what a Great Hotel!

Visiting the race course for the night race meeting at Doncaster we booked to stay at the Hilton hotel, with it being a new building the windows do not Open and I am claustrophobic and like windows that open so I cancelled and rang the Grand st Ledger which is 5 min walk away from the race course. I spoke to the lovely owner who booked our room with windows opening. Room 202 on the 2nd floor was a lovely room on the front with two large windows and the view of the race course in the distance! We arrived and our room with a jacuzzi bath & 4 poster bed. We decided to eat lunch at the hotel and the food was amazing we shared the platter for 2. After the race meeting we went back to the hotel for drinks and the owner gave us a bottle of fresh cold water when we went up for the night. Breakfast we had a full English breakfast and me & my husband both agreed it was the best breakfast from a over night stay at a hotel. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely we staying here again.

Each time we go to Doncaster Race Course, we always stay at this hotel because it's a 60 second walk and a nice relaxing place to stay. It's nicely decorated inside and looks like it's had a refurb recently. The staff are very friendly and there's a nice bar and restaurant. The food and drinks are very reasonably priced and tasty and the ability to have room service is a bonus as well. Each of the rooms we've stayed in have been nice, big, comfortable and bright. They all have baths and the last one we stayed in had a whirlpool bath which was exceptionally nice. If you get this room, you definitely don't want to put anything soapy in when you've got the whirlpool on as it gets very bubbly, very quickly. In fairness to the hotel, they have put this warning on the wall next to the controls but I didn't bother reading and found out the hard way!!! We'll continue to use this as a race-day stop over as it's been lovely to stay in each and every time. Give it a go!
