My girlfriend and I stayed in this hotel for one night on 10-May-19. To be fair, we are used to staying in 4 or 5 star hotels so our view is skewed by this as this is a simple self-catering establishment, however I will share the factual points of my experience. * Dogs will bark throughout the night * You will see kids running around outside with no shoes on playing with the local dogs. My girlfriend saw one of the kids throw a stone at one of the dogs * A cockerel will "cock-a-doodle-doo" at about 4am as there is one fairly close by * There was drilling and maintenance work going on in the breakfast area whilst having breakfast in the morning * The curtains were not blackout, therefore light would beam into the bedroom very early in the morning * The air conditioning can only be in the bedroom, therefore you will roast if you want to sit down in the main room * The breakfast is extremely limited and in my opinion the food is sub-par in terms of quality * There isn't a kettle in the room * The beach is rocky * It is isolated so you would need to make sure that you're well equipped with stuff otherwise you would need to take a 5 minute taxi ride into Mindelo town centre for about 250 CVE On the positive side: * The staff are friendly We checked out in the morning after visiting a much nicer hotel called the Foya Branca Resort hotel. In my opinion, the photos make a far better impression of the place than you get when you're actually there. We were certainly pleased to move on.

    • Modern apartment block with private beach and great views

We booked this through airbnb as part of a 10 day stay in Sao Vincente. Beautiful atrium and lovely private pool and beach if you didn't want to pay the 2.50 taxi ride to go to the centre. Wifi in our apartment (number 309) was limited but you had unlimited wifi access in the atrium area. I got a great manicure there and it still hasn't chipped 10 days later (only 20 nail polishes to choose from so bring your own). Apartment was modern, water pressure in the shower good and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it.

    • A bit isolated but very friendly and supportive staff

The hotel is in Lazareth, approximately 10 minutes from Mindelo's city centre that can be reached by taxi with 2.5 euros. The staff has been super friendly and supportive with an issue we had (wallet stolen). But the breakfast is quite scarce and with no fresh products and the building is quite isolated, despite the beautiful view.

This is not just a review of the hotel but of the island also, will keep it brief. Flew from Sal after a week there, to be honest could not wait to fly back to Sal. Hotel in middle of nowhere, bar was never open, no shop nearby. Hope i never see the place again. Rooms weren't too bad, thats the only positive. Absolutely no atmosphere on the island, beach is like grit, no real decent places to eat, the fishing club the only exception. Basically nothing to do, was also cloudy all time we were their where as Sal was red hot not a cloud in the sky. Maybe due to the mountains.

    • WARNING! Worst hotel night EVER!

My family and I, nine adults and a 7 month old baby arrived Sao Vicente on the 29th of December to spend some relaxing days on the charming Island. We prefer peace and quiet before the buzz of the city so we chose Hotel Las Rochas situated a couple of km outside the city centre of Mindelo. It was very few other guests on the place, and we got three nice apartments with sea view and everything was good. But on the night before new year's eve hell broke loose. A truck load of loudspeakers was being rigged in the pool area, ten meters away from our balcony. At 22:00 a Dj arrived doing a sound check that made our little baby girl wake up, screaming in horror, and at midnight five hundred youngsters had joined the scene, dancing, yelling and screaming like crazy. I am a professional drummer and I'm used to loud volumes, but i never heard anything like this before. The whole building was shaking - windows vibrating. It was impossible to talk to each other even inside the apartment, all though doors and windows where shut. We were putting all kinds of stuff into our ears trying to sleep, but it was impossible. A couple of the youngsters of the family gave up and joined the party instead, but for most of us it was a nightmare that lasted until the morning. The music didn't stop before 04:30 and it was nearly 06:00 before the last screaming people had left the pool area. Obviously this was something the hotel did to make money, but it was us, the guests who paid the prize. Not only did they ruin our night but they also ruined new years eve, as everyone was totally exhausted from the lack of sleep and anger at the situation. I tried to get hold of the manager but she had taken the week end off.. When I finally got hold of her a couple of days later she first insisted on us paying full prize for the nightmare. I had to yell at her before she took to reason and withdrew the night from our bill. I've had a couple of thousand nights on hotels around the world, but Ive never experienced anything as bad as this before. The main reason for staying at a hotel is sleeping. Making that task impossible is the worst thing a hotel can do to their guests. Until Las Rochas decide on whether they run a hotel or a rave club I have to warn everyone thinking of booking at Las Rochas: Stay away from this hotel!! The lack of respect for guests spending their savings to have relaxing and reloading days is shocking, and reveals a mentality that one should stay away from, even when it comes without the noise.
