The visit to Sakkara was nice. The pyramid is small as well as the site. There are a few tombs that are open to visit for a reasonable price. The Step Pyramid or Sakkara Pyramid is said to be the first pyramid in Egypt dating back to the 27th Century BC.

Go and see how the Ancient Egyptians evolved the concept of aPyramid and not all the nonsense about aliens. Larger than you think and peaceful place with many amazing tombs and many still to be discovered.

It is probably one of the only places where you can venture underground and see the artwork inside the tomb. In addition there are nearby smaller tombs which you can enter and the inscriptions on the wall gives you a real insight into the life of the ancient Egyptians. Simply wow

We visited as part of a day tour of sites around Cairo. Definitely worth a visit, it is less busy than the Giza pyramids so you can enjoy the experience a bit more. There are tombs with fantastic hieroglyphics which can be visited with no extra charge on top of the entrance fee. Try and find a good guide, preferably an egyptologist. The stories from the ancient hieroglyphics are fascinating.
