    • Paradise Found!

The moment you pass through the carved palm entryway at Kona Kai Resort, you know you're in for a visually beautiful experience. This cluster of rooms and suites on the bayside in Key Largo seem a world apart from the traffic and rows of motels dotting the Overseas Highway. The resort is small, pet-free, and child-free (over age 14 only) and devoted to providing a relaxing experience for each guest. Right on the bay with a landscaped tropical garden, there are hammocks, beach chairs, tiki huts, kayaks, ping-pong for guests to enjoy at no extra charge. Small beautiful pool with jacuzi, and loved the poolside fridge stocked with water and fruit 24/7. Friendly service (thanks again Katherine!) and sunsets right outside the door. Highly recommend this for solo travelers, couples and friends looking to chill and recharge. I'll definitely be back!

    • Lovely!

If you are planning a relaxing trip to the Keys, you must stop here. Kona Kai has a super chill vibe. My daughter and I were doing a Keys road trip and a friend recommended this place. Be warned there is no beach, as is the case with all places in the Keys. Kona Kai does have kayaks and paddle boards which we used each day. You can paddle out into the bay and easily swim out there and just get back on your board. Our cottage was sublime. Great coffee offered in the morning and the staff is fantastic. We only booked for one night and I wish we stayed longer. We will definitely be back!

    • Wonderful experience!!

We stayed at Kona Kai during the week of July 4th. It was the most amazing place to stay! I love the cottages, the grounds are exotic and beautiful, and the private beach is just dreamy!! My favorite place to be was the hammock on the private beach. I could stay there for days and days!! The staff are exceptionally friendly, as well! Everything was decorated beautifully, was clean and the cottage had everything I needed. When I go back to Key Largo, I will absolutely stay here again!!

Kona Kai is a lovely sprawling property on the water. The buildings & rooms are well maintained and clean. The grounds are tropical and beautiful. Adults only boutique hotel and service with a smile from Katherine and Dee Dee who make us feel so welcome. Such a relaxing upscale place to stay. We will be back!

    • Best kept secret

Our stay at Kona Kai was so wonderful I almost didn't write a review in effort to keep this resort "a best kept secret!" We typically go for hotels with spa's and fine dining on-site; however, once I spoke with the staff at Kona Kai, I could tell we would regret passing up this secluded little resort. Upon check-in, we experienced the kind of welcome you receive from a long time friend, or your favorite local restaurateur, happy to see you again (except we had just met!) It's a small place tucked under the trees and right on a beautiful dock overlooking the bay. Although there were several guests, we actually felt we were the only ones on the property. We used the complimentary paddle boards and beach-front table tennis for two days before we realized there were any other guests besides us.The natural landscape, beautiful gardens and careful planning have created several private venues for lounging, enjoying a glass of wine and conversation, or just a quiet moment alone. Don't let the simple website fool you, the cottages are understated and "beachy," and immaculately maintained. The shower was large and spacious and newly remodeled with contemporary tile and the staff is always sweeping or cleaning. Privacy is a priority, so staff remains behind the scenes or along the outskirts, and never in your way. If you're looking for Bed & Breakfast service, but the privacy of a VRBO, this is your place!
