    • Not a JW, not a resort... avoid!

      Reviewed 30 September 2019

Part of a six guy golf group; booked two days of golf with an overnight stay. Golf course was unplayable, large open dirt patches in fairways, greens not mowed in several days. Golf carts very old and poor condition. We immediately cancelled our second round of golf. Hotel not much better, major construction going on, dirt, noise, etc. Bathroom towels old and scratchy. Dinner in Signature Grill... empty on a Thursday evening... we found out why; food old, poorly prepared and rude wait staff. When we tried to address these problems with a manager; he brushed us off and refused to make any adjustments to our bill. This golf group wont be returning...

    • A JW Marriott in name only.

      Reviewed 26 September 2019

First off I have to say I'm tired of 3 star hotels passing themselves off as 4 and 5 star hotels. This JW Marriott is doing that exactly. 15 years have passed since the last time I was present at this hotel - and guess what - this hotel has barely been updated. In no particular order - 1. Parking - it's a long long long walk from checkin to the front desk. Why would a Hotel inconvenience guests that much? 2. Food Outlets - Chris is a bartender in the Primo restaurant. If this is fine dining I'd be immensely surprised - because it's not. It's slow uninterested in anything but the employees experience. I get that people get busy - get a lot of tables or patrons - I simply don't care. This is a 4 star hotel - hire the people instead of being greedy and running low labor numbers. OTOH my friend and I went to the Signature Restaurant and our server was Teodoro. The difference in service was astounding. The Food was better as well and served in a timely manner. Tepdoro was an amazingly organized Server who also happens to be a 2nd level Wine Sommelier - his attention to detail was outstanding. He is the bright spot in this hotel. Check In - They simply don't care what your experience is. I am a Titanium Elite level customer. The Check in simply doesn't care. They offered nothing except 'free wifi'. And they don't have a Marriott Concierge level - so this isn't a 4 star hotel as they claim. The Staff: This whole hotel is only interested in their experience and not anyone attending. While many speak more than adequate levels of english - the staff doesn't speak it unless necessary IME. One extremely bright spot is two Convention Floor Supervisors - they both bent over backwards to make my meeting go well. The rest of the staff - not so much. The overall hotel - well it's pretty in a Marriott Colors manner - but I stay over 100 nights a year in hotels - there was damage everywhere - security treats everyone with disdain - and this is just a poor example of a JW Marriott. And finally - my pet peeve - try to get a real person on the phone - from my room, calling on my cell phone - I get thrown through an extremely annoying bank of idiotic announcements. The Phone will ring 20 times before someone picks up. Come on people - who thinks this is a great idea?

    • Long ways out

This is a great location to escape reality a bit. The resort is not a long drive from town but you definitely feel isolated when it comes time to do things like find somewhere to eat. We had challenges a couple of meals. The resort is under painting construction which meant that many of the balconies were out of commission. We had called ahead to request a balcony and were told on the phone that they could accommodate our request (we called on the drive in). The front desk associate was rude and unhelpful when we encountered the issue of our balcony being out of commission. We ended up switching rooms but her attitude left a bad taste in my mouth.

    • Guest Services: Hip, Hip, Hooray!!! (x3)

      Reviewed 19 September 2019

JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa: Its team is 100% committed to providing Cadillac service for guests. First of all, for [us] guests to expect that issues should never arise is naive and unrealistic. How the hotel responds - that is what we should review. During my stay, I had an issue with the HVAC in my room. I called "guest services" for assistance and the engineer (Scott P.) arrived promptly. The first thing Scott said was, "We apologize for your inconvenience." After he assessed the situation, he determined that he would need to return with other tools for proper repair. I told him to proceed, and that I would be away at dinner for the next several hours. He promised that the situation would be rectified prior to my return. Sure enough, when I returned, the HVAC was working properly. Scott left a note thanking me for my patience - along with a complimentary bottle of red wine! That is what I call A+++++ service! One recommendation: visit the Catalina Barbeque Co. & Sports Bar at the Starr Pass Golf Suites. Order the "Smoked Catalina Wings" and ask for samples of all of the sauces! The shuttle will take you there and pick you back up - or enjoy a healthy walk back to the resort hotel. I look forward to the next opportunity to visit the JW Marriott Tucson Starr Pass Resort & Spa!

    • Awesome customer service

      Reviewed 18 September 2019

I often visit Tucson for both business and to see family and it is always a pleasure to stay at this property. The views are amazing and the customer service is beyond extraordinary. On my last visit I was having a small issue with the internet T.V and requested engineering support which the front desk arranged immediately. It was a pleasure to meet Sal Perez one of the engineers who was able to troubleshoot and diagnose the issue within minutes. This gentlemen went above and beyond asking if there was anything else we needed. He even offered to bring us up a complimentary drink for the inconvenience. This is phenomenal service and Sal is a true representation of the customer service that the JW Marriott Star Pass values. I highly recommend this property for anyone in search of impeccable customer service. Sal Perez please continue being the true professional you are, much appreciated!
