    • Ran out of clean glasses so had to close the bar for an hour at about 7.00 pm on the Monday bank holiday

      Very slow service because we were told of staff shortages. there were only three bar staff and the bar was closed fir about an hour at 7pm due to a shortage of clean glasses.

      Went to Wetherspoons had a large fish and chips with a Gin and Tonic and a Halloumi wrap and chips with a tea it was a Friday food was reasonably good quality and the total for both meals and drinks was less than 12 a bargain

      The worst thing about this pub by far - is the service. Even more so, this has been by the managers/deputy managers. All occasions when I receive very poor service, I see the person serving has a manager badge on. This evening was no exception. I was waiting to be served along with my friend, we were each ordering meals separately. My friend got served (eventually after a good 5-7 mins wait). Then I was waiting, and waiting, and waiting. No other bar staff came to me to offer me a service, even though, and it was clear - that other new customers came along and got served, yet I was still waiting and waiting. I did not shout out either (I am tall and a big chap too). So after my friend got served, and she did take a bit of time as she was also ordering for her sister, plus the manager serving her, disappeared out back for a while to fix the Pepsi machine... So I was waiting. After my friend was finished, my friend pointed to me to say I needed to be served, it looked like the manager was just about to walk away! The manager (Lennie according to till receipt) did not say anything to me (e.g. like, 'sorry to keep you waiting' or 'how can I help you'). I informed her of my order and inserted my card into the machine to pay and then she walks away after giving me my drink. I remained standing there as I wanted a receipt. Good thing too as I knew by now I was a bit annoyed with the poor customer care and lack of attentiveness of all Alfred Herring staff. The manager then comes back and looks at me and I ask if I can have a receipt, she hands it to me and then walks off. I did say thank you too. Nothing from her at any time. The thing is, this is not the first time. Another time I was at the opposite end of the bar nearer to their coffee machine, and me and my friend got completely ignored. We then moved to the opposite end and she got served, while I again had to wait (was paying separately, no one one else offered to serve me). On that occasion when I got my food, I got no Guacamole and one less onion ring that I was mean to. When I informed, you guessed it, the manager (a different one) I got a smarmy look and attitude. He later bought over 1 onion ring in a little plate and a bit of Guacamole. No 'sorry about that either' - pure attitude. This pub has very poor customer service indeed and I do not recommend it for the service. If you want the food, it is okay for what you pay. The service is another matter though. Very poor managers that they hire though. I did email in about the last experience, however, received no response. Hence, my review on here now. Alfred Herring - if you are reading this, your managers and staff need to pay attention to all customers at the bar and offer them an equal service, acknowledging that some customers have been waiting longer than others. Do not just serve customers that go directly to the middle of the bar and serve them straight away without seeing who else is around. I will scan my receipt (28.11.18 at 18:27) as I know that Trip Advisor may remove your negative review if the pub makes contact direct with Trip Advisor based on a negative review. This way it shouldn't be removed.

      Gone totally downhill. Never going there again! Terrible service. Terrible food! Mean portions. Incredibly bad quality. Online ordering system means you wont even receive your drinks after twenty minutes. Ordered the only veggie pizza toopings available - with goats cheese. Then, after goodness knows how long, waitress came to tell us there was no goats cheese either. We told her then we were still waiting for drinks. She said shed see to it and didnt. Gave up and went to chase up at the bar. Barman put a bottle of full alcohol Peroni on the tray instead of the non alcoholic beer wed ordered (luckily I noticed - was driving). Tables sticky and dirty, with dirty snotty tissues left on from previous customer. When we finally got our meals, pizza was thin, dry and bare. Veggie curry was very small. , with the poppadoms stale and the naan was rock hard and dried out. The large scampi was 8 pieces with around ten chips with hard little pellets that had once perhaps identified as peas. The orange juice and sparking water and almost no orange juice in. This was not entirely budget but was standard pub price - scampi over 7:50 or so. None of the bpbegetarian pizzas were available. The unappetising mess had finally arrived after about 45 mins.

      It was absolutely terrible. Was served by Marzena who was half asleep. Me and my partner ordered a starter and main but she wasn't even bothered to ask if I want my starter and main all same time. Obviously, starter came out first and my partner had to wait for his main for over 20 minutes. No apologies, nothing. All I heard her saying: " Its not your fault". Of course its not!!!! Had to ask for ask for a refund. Not happy at all!!!!!
