    • Overpriced, outdated accommodation. Very Rude owner.

      Reviewed 28 July 2019

We were given the only "garden room" facing the pool, the upstairs of which provided a view of the back wall of the property in front, with no view of the beach at all. Not exactly what we had in mind. My wife asked if we could change but was told it wasn't possible. Having booked the room several months in advance on booking.com, this was disappointing. As for the downstairs, the bedroom was at the back and had minimal natural light. The fixtures and fittings throughout looked 30 years old. The electric cooker rings were in poor repair (see photo). The Shower door was of a design that is considered a hazard for young or old people in this decade. The stay was price comparable with our recent 4 night stay in a modern serviced apartment on Hamilton island, which had a modern kitchen and large balcony with a view over the Whitsunday Islands in front of us. We felt Sails represented poor value by comparison. He had paid for our first night in advance of our arrival. On the morning of day four I was handed an envelope by the female property owner containing two declined transaction slips dated 11am the day before, and a hand written note that said "booking . com have sent your credit card today". Firstly, the card used in the attempted transactions was wrong; it was an old card that had been removed from my booking.com account some weeks prior to our arrival. The owner then tried to tell me that "booking.com take their commission", implying that she had no control over when this payment had been attempted. The owner had given me no indication remaining payment was expected yesterday, or indeed, before check out. I phoned booking.com that morning, who confirmed that yes, the card used was not the one currently associated with my account, and that outstanding payment was not due until the day of departure, according to the terms. In summary, a failure to communicate with the guest, and the owner not following the correct payment procedures of their own chosen booking agent. All resolvable with a simple conversation you might think ? No ! the tone of our discussion continued to be unrelentingly accusational towards me, the guest, and eventually escalated into a full scale altercation over the payment of the room. During this escalating conversation I offered to pay with the correct credit card, but the owner refused. I eventually stormed off for the days sight seeing, having lost my patience with the conversation. That evening (the day before we were due to leave) my wife went to pay the outstanding balance, and the owner was incredibly rude; she told my wife to pay right now or get out. She threatened to call the police! (Quite what they were going to do, I have no idea. My wife called her bluff on this threat, and she unsurprisingly did nothing). I've never experienced such rudeness as a hotel guest before in my life. Suffice to say we left feeling very sour over the whole experience and will never return.

    • Fantastic Apartment in a Fabulous Location

      Reviewed 01 June 2019

We were totally happy with this comfortable, well appointed apartment in an outstanding location right on the beachfront. Beautiful pool and gardens complement the apartments. Very quiet, peaceful and private area of Horseshoe Bay and fabulous views from our upstairs balcony. Under cover off street parking was provided as well. Phil the manager was extremely accommodating- so friendly and helpful. Overall, could not fault this lovely accommodation and woul happily stay again.

    • Cruise around Australia & NewZealand

Our first time on a Viking Cruise ship. Interesting concept: no children under 18 years of age; no photographers chasing us in a pirate or whale costume to pose; no noisy casino; no smoking. Terrific delicious food and the extremely accommodating staff for folks. Special menus created for passengers who request them. Beautiful, elegant and tasteful surroundings both inside our stateroom and the public rooms. Just fair entertainment but there was a terrific pianist who could play anything from classical to jazz. Smoothly executed shore excursions. Very spacious and clean. Would definitely sail on this line again.

After exploring Nelly Bay we caught the bus to Horseshoe Bay to checkin to Sails. We received a friendly reception and great intro to the complex facilities. Inground pool on our back door, Complimentary beach towels and eskys are provided. Cars and scooters are also available but we didnt take up this offer. The rooms are clean and have comfortable beds and couches. Decor might be a little dated for some, but we loved it. Think pale blue rattan! Kitchen facilities were great (full size fridge, cooktop, dishwasher, microwave, pantry with a few staples included). There was also a washer and dryer in the bathroom. A/C is good. Our room was ground floor right on Pacific Drive which fronts the beach. A grassed front courtyard with table setting overlooks the bay. Its a short 2 minute walk to all the Horseshoe Bay shops and cafes. *Just something to note: the grocery stores on Maggie are pricey as everything comes from the mainland. Dont be surprised if your muesli costs $10. ** Beach is superb. There are stinger nets provided when they are around (Oct - May). Go swimming in the morning (high tide), Beach combing and walking in the afternoon (low tide).

We had a great time , position is perfect only a stone's throw from the water. The unit itself was very nicely set out, a little tired in some areas but nothing of concern and would not put me off from comming back the units and position represent excellent value for money and are almost 4 star they have everything you need. We stayed in a beachfront unit water is literally 20 metres from the doorstep view is sensational. We will come back again :)
