Visited for a weekend with family; nice clean rooms and pool was very great. Staff was very amiable and we did had a very good time. Activities in the pool can be improved but nevertheless the pools are great. Sauna and Turco are very good options as well.

    • A nice classic hotel that needs a makeover and better training for the staff

I've stayed at Tocarema close to 10 times in the last 7 years with my girlfriend and sometimes her kids. We enjoy the hotel, pool, and climate though this visit was the most frustrating as things seem to keep declining to the point that I was so frustrated with a portion of the staff that I spoke with the manager about it. The rooms are a decent size though the bathrooms really need renovated and the old style double faucet handles replaced with modern mixer valves. The hot water system in general needs a retrofit. Taking a shower was a constant dance of the water fluctuating between too hot and too cold. The a/c works well except that the auto setting was broken so the temperature control doesn't do anything. The system was either off or on which made the room get too cold during the night. I'd also feel better if the room had a safe, though we've never had any problems. The pool towel system with each towel having an unique number always causes an issue when turning the towels back in as invariably at least one of the towels got swapped poolside and doesn't have the specific number checked out to us. I can understand the need to check out towels but the number system seems unnecessary as long as the proper number are returned. The biggest frustration this visit was with maybe 25% of the pool side waitstaff who lacked basic food service/ hotel training to the point of completely ignoring me. The kitchen was also a point of frustration as too many times food didn't come out properly, especially if a substitution was requested regardless if the order was made be me (I'm obviously gringo though I speak good Spanish or by my gf who is from Bogota). Even the cook at the made to order egg station in the breakfast buffet couldn't seem to get the right ingredients in my omelet even though there was a waiter standing there reading my order to him as if the cook wasn't paying attention or just didn't care. My real frustration, to the point of boiling over, (and I've traveled a lot including in the Caribbean, Central, and South America) was the percentage of staff who wouldn't address or talk with me and would instead look at and talk to my gf or her kids to the point of completely ignoring me even though I was speaking Spanish. The worst was when I ordered a caesar salad with chicken added (even though it's not an option in the menu). The waiter that took the order seemed to understand though the salad came out without chicken and when I asked about it all of a sudden it was a major issue for what should have been a simple thing. The cashier at the pool side bar came to the table, completely ignored me, and didn't even attempt to communicate with me even though I had spoken to all the rest of the staff in Spanish. My gf tried to help and went to the kitchen in search of some chicken. It wasn't until later that night that when we closed out for the day that we were able to get the salad and chicken removed from the bill even though we had asked that it be removed earlier and had left it untouched. The level of training of the waitstaff has seriously declined though the majority of the staff in general are friendly and helpful. I agree with other reviewers that the food is overpriced and not of high enough quality to suit what should be a grande dame hotel. Even with its shortcomings, the hotel is a nice place to relax though I'm not sure if we'll be returning anytime soon. Honestly, both the food and service are much better at the restaurant across the street.

This place needs a serious renovation. The tiles are loose on the floor, doors on closets don't close properly and the drawers fall out every time you open them. The architecture is beautiful and the view from the room is gorgeous but they could do an upgrade. The pool is also nice but this is NOT a 4 star hotel, far from it. There aren't any safe boxes in the room, no hairdryer and the toiletries are cheap and they don't even have a box of tissues. The lighting in the room is terrible and the bathroom could use a makeover. It feels like it got stuck in the 50's but in a bad way. The restaurant menu is too expensive for what it is and there is not much around. The internet is not the fastest but it works most of the time. Sorry, but not a good experience

Classical hotel with a great pool and garden with a beautiful view. Good location and great, friendly staff. Breakfast is a la carte and is pretty good. The rooms are decent but the interior is a little old and tired. But overall value for money is good.

It's a nice hotel with a great pool area and other commodities such as the pool bar, nice restaurants, nice food but it's quite pricy. The room prices as well as the food and beverages costs are way too high in my opinion, although as I pointed it's a great hotel but its getting older by the minute, the rooms in general are quite old and haven't had a remake in a long time. Food is quite good, but I don't really think it deserves the high price, the same goes for drinks and beverages 3 or 4 times it's regular price. Another downside is that apparently now the breakfast it's not included and you have to pay a quite high amount of pesos for a buffet, if comparing to a regular meal as well. Other than that it's still is one of the best options in Girardot.
