    • Small town charm

I was looking for a central location in Tuscany where I drive to or take the train to the cities in the area. San Miniato seemed like a good fit and the historical background of this hotel seemed to fit the charm part. The hotel is within walking distance of the town center and you actually drive under it to get to the front office which was well staffed. My room was in the annex which was across the street in back of the main building. Take the elevator in the main building and exit in the back and cross the drive to the annex. Our room was on the second floor (no elevator in annex) and was spacious with a couch, desk and wardrobe. You insert your key card in a slot to activate the electricity. The card can go in two ways and seemed to direct the card the wrong way and I had to call for help. It took 3 days for the staff to explain that there was a different way to insert the card. The A/C in the room was marginal so we opened the window in the evening but learned that an open window also inactivates the A/C so don't open the window to vent the bathroom. Parking for the main building was in front and there was parking in front of the annex which required a very tight turn to go in or out. The continental breakfast had a nice selection of breads, scrambled eggs, cheese, bacon, fresh fruit, sweet dessert and drinks. Seating was inside or outside in the fresh air on a small patio. Service at the hotel was good and, once I learned the eccentricities of the room, was quite pleasant. On Tuesday nights in the summer, they close the small central piazza in town for live music. You might have trouble getting to the hotel. There are a few small restaurants in town that are quite pleasant.

We stayed here for two nights while walking the Via Francigena. I had high hopes after viewing the website prior to arrival. The hotel advertises a day spa and sauna facility which we were definitely in need of after walking 6/7 hours a day. At check in, I enquired about the opening hours of the facilities and was simply told that it wasn't available that day for no particular reason and without apology. The next day, I enquired again and was given the same answer. I suspect times are tough for the hotel as clearly no one is operating the spa facilities, there was hardly anyone on reception throughout the day, the few staff weren't particularly friendly and the decor and bathroom facilities are begging for an update. A shame really, as the building is a beautiful converted Monastery and is situated in such a lovely historical town.

Someone has stopped putting care and money into this place. I will show you a series of pictures and you tell me. They say the most dirty part of a room is the remote. But black mold is too far. I also hate hotels and that just give you soap that's attached to the wall and they can't even spray for some free amenities. One thing they did manage to do what they paid for a sophisticated card system so the lights will go off when you leave the room I don't think they were doing that to save the environment

Staff was very helpful, seems to have a wide variety of rooms. Advertised a restaurant, but unfortunately there was no restaurant. However, there was a nice bar for tea or a class of wine. San Miniato is a delightful village.

    • Nice B&B

We stayed here for a wedding and were so happy to arrive in this quiet town after the insanity of Florence. The entire town is up a very steep hill from the train station, we emailed the hotel before our arrival and arranged to have a local cab driver pick us up from the train station. It was very expensive, but there isn't another option! The hotel staff was quite rude and clearly wasn't happy that their entire hotel was taken over by loud Americans, but you don't really need to interact with the staff. I wouldn't plan on spending much time at the "bar" as they don't have any bartenders. I would highly recommend booking a suite size room, we had the Napoleon Suite and it was wonderful. If you find yourself in San Miniato, this is a great B&B to stay in.
