Very nice hotel. Good location, swimming pool, nice pub and a very good restaurant. Some rooms are quite small. I dont recommend it to old people or passengers with some problema to walk. Many stairs. It is my option in Tana.

We stayed one night here and found this place very good. Comfortable room, good beds and it was quite. You will also find a good breakfast buffet which seems to be quite rare in Madagascar. The streets at night around are not very welcoming so stay also here for dinner in the good restaurant

We didn't spend much time at this hotel as we arrived at 2230 hours and left the following morning. Check in was efficient, the entrance is quirky with historic items from Madagascar. The room was spacious with a huge bed and mini balcony, we slept well in the hotel. The following morning there was no hot water for the shower unsure if this is standard but it was a bit of a pain given we had travelled for hours the previous day. Breakfast was buffet style and was OK. The gardens are nice and we had a visit from a lovely parrot. Overall a good stay and would stay if visiting again.

    • An oasis of peace and tranquillity in frenetic Tana!

We stayed at this hotel twice. On arrival in Madagascar and prior to our departure. On our first visit, we arrived in the early hours of the morning. It was very dark and quiet outside, everything en route from the airport appeared to be boarded up; very strange for a capital city. The Sakamanga doesnt look like a hotel from the outside. But, upon entering through the doorway off the street, you can see it is a very special, very unique, quirky, boutique hotel. On our first visit, we stayed in one of the older rooms, full of character and very comfortable. Air conditioning, TV, safe, tea/coffee making facilities, soaps, shampoos, hair dryer. Breakfast was a bit disappointing. The continental breakfast includes bread (and bread isnt good anywhere in Madagascar, despite the French having so much influence), a pastry, jams and honey, tea or coffee and some gloopy fruit juice. If you want eggs or anything else, you have to pay for the buffet, which didnt look overly exciting. It would have been nice to have the opportunity to just pay for some eggs. Breakfast is taken in the court yard in the old part of the hotel; very pleasant. When we stepped out on the street to head off on our tour, there was the full hustle and bustle that you would expect of Tana but, whilst inside, you are completely unaware. It is a little oasis from the madness. On our second visit, before heading home, we had a huge room in the new section of the hotel. Less character, but a beautiful and very comfortable room. We even had a mezzanine level, with another 3 beds, presumably suitable for a large family! The main bed was huge. All the same facilities as before. Beautiful modern bathroom with his and her sinks and rain forest shower! Very different to the hotels we stayed at during our tour. The hotel does have a pool, which we thought we would use but, as they use tables around the pool for their restaurant at lunch time, that wasnt possible! Lunch and snack menus were good. Before heading to the airport, we ate in the restaurant upstairs. They have an excellent menu, the service was good and the food was very enjoyable. Up a level from what we had got used to! The area around the hotel seemed safe during day light hours, but we were told not to go out after dark. There is a souvenir shop, just down the street from the hotel, but not much else for tourists, other than street sellers that set up stall outside. We had some real fun with them negotiating on prices!
