My Brother and I recently stayed for a week at the Hotel in the lovely village of Unterseen. The Hotel is ideally located only a few minutes from Interlaken West Railway station and all Facilities to explore the Bernese Oberland region of Switzerland. The Hotel has very comfortable rooms well maintained and cleaned.A good selection is provided for Breakfast and there are plenty of good Restaurants nearby for Evening meals. We have stayed at the Hotel for a number of Years now and always receive a warm welcome from Christopher,Nadine,Barbara and all the staff and made to feel at home straight away. They are always very willing to help anyone visiting Interlaken for the first time to plan trips into the Mountains and to attractions in the area.We hope to return next Year and recommend the Hotel to anyone visiting the Beautiful Bernese Oberland.

I stayed at Interlaken Hotel Rosley in Switzerland on my first trip to Europe. I recommend a clean room, a bathroom, and various breakfast offerings. In addition, the staff is very kind. Don't worry, come to Rosley.

    • Return to the Rssli in high season

      Reviewed 25 August 2019

The Rssli Hotel is located an easy, level, five minute walk from Interlaken West rail/bus/boat (for Lake Thun) interchange. If you arrive at Interlaken Ost station, catch the connecting train usually going to Basel, or local train to Spiez for the 3 minute ride to Interlaken West to save walking with your luggage. The Rssli is a traditional semi-rustic, compact, unpretentious family run hotel in Unterseen, a relative haven of calm set away from the main shopping areas with its traffic noise and the hustle and bustle of the summer crowds. Even I was surprised at how busy Interlaken was at peak season and this also applied to the trains and buses, so it was nice to return to the peace and quiet of the hotel after a long day exploring the visual delights of the Bernese Oberland. Christopher (who speaks six languages) and Nadine are the owners of the hotel and go out of their way to make you feel welcome, they are assisted by Angela, Barbara and Sandy at reception. Apart from their considerable multi-lingual talents, they provide extensive local knowledge, an array of tourist leaflets and can help you plan local excursions, advise on the cheapest tickets for the Jungfrau Railways system and print them to save you queuing at the station. This task can be quite time consuming and I was impressed with the patient way they dealt with multiple guests at busy times. From my experience they provide a more personable and detailed service than the local tourist office. Nadine's new baby - Butsch the black Labrador puppy was sometimes available to provide a calming distraction for waiting guests. They will provide you with an ID voucher for the free Wi-Fi and an 'Interlaken Guest Card and map' that entitles you to free bus and train travel within the Interlaken local area and it offers discounts on some attractions and at specified retailers. As Switzerland is currently the most expensive destination in Europe, anything that can save money is to be welcomed. Another money saving feature at the Rssli is that you can bring in your own foodstuffs/take away meals and utilise their fridge, microwave, plates and cutlery so that you may eat them in the lounge or outside on the terrace in fine weather. The staff can also suggest local restaurants to suit every price range. There's also a 24 hr free tea(PG Tips+other types)/coffee making facility in the bar area. They also sell beers, water and fruit juices at reasonable prices. Car parking is free when you book directly with the hotel and they offer a 'Pay As You Go' laundry facility and storage space for luggage/ski equipment. It was nice to see Jean Louis in 'full assist mode' during my stay and on hand to welcome and entertain many of his long term returning guests. The rooms available range from single budget types with shared facilities, to twins and triples or an apartment on the top floor that sleeps six. There is a super compact lift that operates as far as the 2nd floor. My 1st floor room was clean, compact, simply furnished and had a comfy bed, safe, shower/ toilet and TV with a vast range of channels including all those in the UK. The tap water here is as good as any of the commercial bottled water available in the shops. There were adequate power sockets and the free Wi-Fi is quite fast, but you can upgrade to a premium service at extra cost . The rooms are serviced daily by very pleasant staff. The rooms with balconies provide the best views across to the Jungfrau Massif and the surrounding mountains. Breakfasts are served between 07.00 and 10.00 am. They do scrambled eggs and yummy bacon, toast, cold hard boiled eggs, plus cereals, fruit, local cheese and ham, chicken slices, yoghurt, breads, croissants, rolls, jams, fruit juices and tea, coffee or hot chocolate. The hot drinks are freshly served at your table by the reception staff and they offer welcome regular top-ups. The ground floor lounge and bar has a large screen TV and DVD player, a multi-lingual library and seats and tables where you can just sit and relax after a busy day walking in the mountains. There is also a first floor lounge with large screen TV, DVD/video player and a large collection of DVDs/videos, plus a children's play area with toys and games. Just across the road from the hotel are a newsagents, pharmacy, bank with ATM, Pizza restaurant and Indian restaurant. There's also a Co-op supermarket within 150m where you can buy fruit, snacks and drinks to sustain you on your excursions in the area. The busier and noisier main shopping streets in Interlaken are about a five to ten minute walk. If you are staying for three or more days in the area and want to see some of the best scenery in the Bernese Oberland then it may be worth buying a Jungfrau Travel Pass that gives unlimited travel (3day adult CHF 180.00 up to 8day adult CHF 305.00) and will get you as far as Kleine Scheidegg, Grindelwald/First, Harder Kulm, Schynige Platte, Murren, Wengen/Maenlichen, Brienz, Thun and lake boats services. However, for trips to the Jungfraujock you need to buy an additional ticket for CHF74.00. For more extensive travel in Switzerland then the 8 day (CHF 418.00 2nd class) or 15 Day (CHF 513.00 2nd class) 'Swiss Pass' can be very useful as it covers public rail, bus transport to and in Swiss towns and cities and includes entry to over 400 museums. However, it only provides access to Wengen, Murren and Grindelwald on the Jungfrau Railways system and you only get a 25% reduction on the 'Top of Europe - Jungfraujock' trip, but most other cable cars and mountain railways allow a 50% reduction. This year the Schilthorn and Mt Rigi (near Luzern) mountain railways trips are included at no suppliment. A point worth keeping in mind for guests from warmer countries; the reason Switzerland is so green and lush is because of its fairly wet climate and this can prove a little disappointing when the clouds descend and obscure the views of the mountains. Sometimes it is possible to climb above the cloud base to see new vistas of engaging beauty. Sometimes not. Don't despair, as it may improve the following day. Also, remember the Hotel Rssli is only a 2* hotel, so don't think there are wellness centres, swimming pools or piano players serenading you as you sip your drinks. The Rssli is just a very friendly, simple, cosy place that offers excellent service at a very reasonable price and I have no hesitation in recommending it.
