    • Honest review, we do not recommend

      Reviewed 03 September 2019

My husband and I stayed at Mega Mare for 5 nights and honestly I wish we would have stayed elsewhere. The hotel has a stunning view but that is really the only positive thing about this hotel. There is breakfast included, which is very poor and has very limited options including basically bread and fruit. The main reason we booked the hotel was for the view. The strange thing was that the breakfast is set up in a room and when we tried to take our food outside to enjoy the spectacular view we were stopped and told its now allowed. We honestly couldnt believe it. There is a pool, which is nice and refreshing. But its only open from 11-7 pm. Which is a bummer because you are very isolated and if you are at the hotel thats the only thing to really do. We found the owner and staff members to be incredibly rude intense/aggressive. The air con is not very strong and staff/owner will turn it off for your room sporadically. We had to ask them multiple times to turn it back on. Very strange. They charge 20$ to drive you 3 miles to sorrento one way. So it adds up very quickly. We spent over 250 Euros on taxis. We thought about renting a car or scooter as thats what we usually do when traveling but the roads are very intimidating and we didnt feel safe. The bathroom is extremely tiny and the door doesnt even open all the way. I could barely shave my legs in the shower. All in all this place is not worth staying at all! Sorry to be so negative but the pictures are very misleading and we felt very uncomfortable and unhappy with our experience at Mega Mare.

The hotel has a espectacular view from the room balcony and the pool as well. The rooms were cleaned and nicely maintained. Amazing service and very helpful staff. I would suggest you to arrange the pick up services at the bus or train station prior to your trip. 5stars hotel

    • Amazing views and pool but average hotel

      Reviewed 24 August 2019

The views and the pool at this hotel are unreal, however the hotel itself, the customer service, facilities, level of comfort and breakfast are average at best. I appreciate it is a traditional hotel, however it was lacking the most basic hotel comforts (no tea or coffee in the room, thin sheet-like towels, uncomfortable beds and very loud, old air con system). The location is difficult for getting to Sorrento etc if you dont have a car and the hotels drivers charge a small fortune (10 for a 4 minute drive) to the nearest station. This makes things difficult and expensive if you want to stay out late in Sorrento as the last train is around 10pm and it is a minimum of 40 for a taxi. I know the owner will respond to this disputing our points made but it is also important to say we found the staff quite rude. On our last day we were waiting for our car in the hotel lobby and we were asked to leave the hotel so the cleaner could clean... ridiculous. Would recommend staying elsewhere and just taking advantage of the views near to the hotel. This hotel would benefit massively from a bit of investment and an upgrade.

    • Idyllic location and views

      Reviewed 18 August 2019

I have just returned from 7 nights here, travelling with my husband and two teenage daughters. The views of the bay from the hotel's terrace and rooms are incredible; it is a stunning location. Our two rooms were spacious enough, with a mini-bar ( fairly priced), air conditioning and TV which we didn't use. Why look at the telly when there are views like that? The breakfast was nice, a fair choice of food and the the coffee is made to order and is delicious. The staff are helpful and friendly; the waiters seem to be able to speak just about any language and work really hard! Up and down those steps, backwards and forwards, I felt bad having another glass of Prosecco! The manager is also very helpful and will recommend restaurants and call cabs etc Only negative thing for us was the lack of nearby restaurants to walk to, and the hotel does not have a restaurant. There are a few places a couple of miles away in Meta and in Vico Equense, but my advice would be get a taxi because driving and parking are hellish. There is a 'burger van' that parks up in the evenings about half a mile away and that is actually worth a trip. It's called chef on the road or something and offers gourmet paninis for 6 euros, they take cards and you can sit and look at those incredible views. Fab. So, book this hotel, don't get a car its too stressful, enjoy the views and the wonderful warm bath swimming pool that rarely has more than 4 people in it. Utter tranquillity and only 4 miles to Sorrento.
