Worth Your Time!
ReviewedUpon arrival into Anchorage, we decided to check out this museum to ensure we included a bit of culture in our visit. It was affordable and not very busy, and ended up taking us about an hour and a half. We are two adults, so we didnt spend much time in the hands-on area designed for kids, so that probably made it a shorter experience for us. The Art of the North Gallery housed several historical paintings from the 1800s and beyond, and it was outstanding - such beautiful art from early explorers of Alaska. We also really enjoyed the exhibit on the native Alaskan people, called the Smithsonian Arctic Sties Center, where they showcased historical clothing, tools, toys and other artifacts from the Smithsonian Institutes National Museum of Natural History and National Museum of the American Indian. Definitely recommend visiting this museum, it was a great use of our time as we started off our Alaskan Adventure.
JM2007SJWell worth a visit
ReviewedSuch an interesting place !! Excellent information provided on every aspect of life and culture of Alaska, historical and present. Great displays. Its a pity we did not have time to do a complete round.
wendyllpJust worth a visit - a must do in Anchorage
ReviewedExcellent exhibitions covering the live and people from first settlement to today in Alaska. Modern and great way explaining facts, telling stories and bringing you closer to country, its people in past and present. Plan at least for 2 hours, you can easily spend 3 or more!
Schellenursli2Very Enjoyable
ReviewedReally interesting mix of exhibits. They included some historical information of life and culture in Alaska as well as some modern artwork. They had a whole section on food in Alaska including the costs related to shipping a variety of stables to various towns, some remote, in Alaska. The section on the native peoples was fascinating. A very hard life those people had. I realized how many things we take for granted in the lower 48.It's well laid out, well lit with good information with the various displays. Very well worth the visit!
