    • Le Clos de la Tour in Chtillon is not to be missed.

It's exquisite but be sure to make it to Le Clos de la Tour on the Rue Barrit in Chtillon-sur-Chalaronne - not their downtown joint - which I think is only open in the winter? The rooms are super and cosy and very oldey-worldey yet comfortable with all mod cons. The cuisine served on the terrace restaurant is worthy of a Michelin star. I recommend the Volail de Bresse aux Morilles taken with a noble white Burgundy.

    • Quirky hotel with pros and cons

Came here for a business conference for which this hotel was not really suited given the lack of a proper conference room. The breakfast was existing mainly of croissant and baguette with jam, i.e. quite basic but good if you don't want to waste much time with breakfast. We also had one dinner and 3 lunches, which were generally quite tasty set 3 course meals. However, the variety was quite limited, often using chicken and for dessert lots of cream. Also the waitresses had been very inexperienced, at no time they could immediately tell us what was on the plate but always had to check back in the kitchen. As we were asking regularly I wonder why they did not prepare themselves better. Now for the room. Mine was actually quite small but with separate toilet and comfortable bed. The main downside was the lack of bathroom and shower. Instead there was a bath tub almost immediately next to the bed, which was a) quite small and b) did not allow for a shower without flooding the room. Thus I had to take an inconvenient bath every morning. On the positive side the location is in the center of this lovely town, but still quiet enough.

    • Confused and disappointed

We arrived and the hotel appeared closed. A telephone call got us the code to get in and there was a note and key for the room. This was the height of the French holiday season and I think one other room was occupied! The hotel is advertised as having wi-fi and I found a signal but it refused all attempts at connecting. The hotel is advertised as having a swimming pool - it doesn't. I believe the pool is based at another site some 300 meters away. The hotel is advertised as having parking - again I believe this is 300 meters away and there is a Saturday Market just outside the hotel and I was convinced my car would be towed away! Despite the hotel appearing empty, we had a small attic room with a small shower. All in all I was very disappointed, there was clear potential here - the hotel was unusual and with a bit of life could probably have been excellent but for someone with limited mobility is very poor. We decided that this hotel was not for us and we decided to leave that afternoon.

    • Choose Le Clos in Summer

We had booked for La Tour, but when we arrived were told that we had been upgraded to Le Clos - under the same management and their main base of operations in the summer. This was a good move, because it has on site parking and a lovely restaurant, which they open in the summer instead of the gastronomic restaurant in La Tour itself. It is round the back of the old town, to which it has easy access on foot. The food is described as Bistronomic, and is of good quality with a reasonably priced set menu.

    • Very pretty, quite and romantic atmosphere - and they accept dogs!

Coming back from a hellish flight, rather than going directly home, we made a pitstop midway. We fell upon this cute hotel and decided to stay as theer was room :) The service was very friendly, although I was a bit put off by the sales in the reception area. After that, however the stay was wonderful They accepted dogs, which was awesome as my boyfriend picked me up with my doxie. We even ate there that night and they whipped up a great vegan dish for my boyfriend. Very friendly, lovely beds and really great quailty of toilitries in the bathroom. I'd go back if I ever pass through again!
