A comfortable and well appointed hotel with good size rooms, helpful and cheerful staff, a very convivial bar and a great restaurant with too many tempting choices which is unfortunate because the optional full English breakfast is also splendid although you can have a pastry and fruit! The hotel is in the New Forest, literally on the doorstep or a gentle amble from the car park so perfect if you enjoy a country walk. Easy driving to a host of locations but watch out for the free roaming ponies and the odd deer on the road. A great location for a long weekend.

We gathered at the White Buck for a family get together and had a really fabulous day. Everyone enjoyed their lunch and the menu was varied and food delicious! The venue was ideal for a relaxed gathering - starting with morning coffee, followed by a tasty lunch and finishing with drinks in the very pleasant gardens. Thanks for making our special family get together so successful.

    • Disappointing stay

We have often lunched at The White Buck and been delighted. So we decided to walk from home, stay the night, then walk home the next day - a mini adventure of 29 miles. We booked a "snug" room - sufficient for our stay of 1 night. It was on the second floor with a large Velux window on one side and a small one on the other with the blind fully down. The bathroom was an internal one with no windows and so a panelled glass door from the bedroom. The glass door was opaque but still allowed for images to be seen through it! There were plenty of toiletries, coffee/tea making facilites but what was intriquing was that when I pulled up the small Velux blind, the window was absolutely filthy, inside and out. I quickly drew the blind down. The view was of beautiful chimneys on the other roofs but now not to be seen. We went down for dinner and were appalled to see that the 2 open windows on the second landing were caked in cobwebs both inside, outside and around the bases of the curtains! A long feather duster could have been useful! There were windows at the end of our corridor at waist height and cobwebs around our main window. We were shown to a table - only one chair, no knife for myself and a dirty glass. Whilst the liver and bacon was tasty and OK, my Moroccan lamb tagine was bland - the most flavour came from the fresh coriander sprigs on the top. Breakfast was fine - a good selection. The amount of cobwebs made us wonder about the standard of cleanliness within the hotel.
