    • Delightful!

This is a delightful hotel with the added bonus of having an outdoor swimming pool which is a bonus during the summer months. Perfectly located to easily visit Jerez and Cadiz. Rooms are well-proportioned, clean and comfortable.

    • Nice hotel in a good location for exploring El Puerto de Sta Maria - but not 5 star

      Reviewed 16 September 2019

We stayed at the Hotel Duques de Medinaceli for two nights in September. On the plus side, parking is free and seemed very secure. The hotel is within easy walking distance of the centre and we found some lovely and inexpensive restaurants for dinner. Upon checking in, the two standard rooms we had booked were upgraded to junior suites, which was really nice. However, I think the cleaning staff hadnt quite finished their job in one of the suites as there was no bathmat, no bathrobes and very little toilet paper in one of our bathrooms (which were then supplied on the second day of our stay). The public areas of the hotel are a bit atmosphere-less. We found it a bit strange that you couldnt just walk through the front door during the daytime without ringing the doorbell (maybe there is some kind of security issue we werent aware of?). The swimming pool is tiny (we actually walked past in on our first day, as we thought it was a garden pond), the water was a bit greasy and there were lots of ants crawling around! Wi fi is free but kept dropping. The safe wasnt working in one of our rooms, so we just had to take our chances with our passports and valuables during the daytime. This is not a five-star hotel by our standards in Ireland. There was no evidence of anyone senior/manager around the hotel at any time so, while the service was certainly friendly, it was a bit slow at times (particularly the check-out on our final day).

    • Great experience

Stayed for few days in Hotel Duques de Medinacell - has been a truly great experience. The hotel is a former small palacio a little bit outside traditional centre of El Puerto de Santa Maria - easy access by car and large private and secure parking. Parking is complimentary which is great! Check in was done efficiently and with a great smile. Received a lot of good tips about stay and visits. Receptionist suggested us to take ferry to visit Cadiz which turned out to be a super suggestion. We were also offered an upgrade to a junior suite which was super. Nice and large room - furniture could use some uplift or refreshing. Room was extremely quiet with view on the garden. Bed is excellent with very good sleep comfort. Breakfast was excellent - great choice of food, fresh fruit juice, fresh fruits, nice jamon, excellent crepes... very nice breakfast. The pool and garden are superb for relaxing after a day full of walking and visiting... If you are looking for a place to stay that is easy accessible, quiet and with warm hospitality, this is a great choice

This is a really fantastic hotel with a gentile charm. Perfect if you want beautiful grounds, charming staff, delicious food and spacious rooms. I think it is quite simply one of the nicest hotels I have stayed in for a very long time. Not the place to book if you do not want to forget the world outside this walled oasis. We will be back!

    • Brillant hotel in every way

My wife & I booked for 3 nights and eventually extended to 7, until business forced us to leave Cadiz. Remarkable adaption of histroic buildings to create lovely tranqil atmosphere - and our suite felt like a spacious and stylish upper class apratment. Staff just marvellous! - 5 star ability to magically anticipate our needs. Always very friendly but unobtrustive and considerate. Hotel integrated with very large, private and and calm gardens which come as as surpize for this city centre hotel, a very short walk from the bars, resturants and shops of El Puerto. Great secure parking accessed from gardens - masses of spaces (some with sun shades). Immaculately clean medium-sized pool in garden, if a little chiily in ealry May. And great resurant service and very good food. Quite superb.
