This beautiful hotel, run by the Treccani family, offers every element required to make a perfect holiday. The location, on the edge of Lake Garda, with stunning views across the lake to the Alps, takes your breath away on arrival. However, just wait until you come down to dinner at the hotels terrace restaurant, Al Bacio.....it is so romantic to dine al fresco as the sun goes down to be replaced with the twinkling lights of the towns on the opposite shore of the lake. The food is well presented and delicious, and paired with good quality local wines. We found the waiting staff to be extremely friendly and attentive. We did decide to eat out in the town one evening for a change, however, the food and experience left a lot to be desired compared to the meals at the hotel, so it was back to Castello Lakefront the following night. Staying with the food theme, the self-service buffet breakfast, which is served in the downstairs restaurant, (still with lake views), is the most varied and delicious weve ever had anywhere. Cereals galore with a myriad of accompaniments, fresh fruit juices, a fantastic selection of fresh fruits, a continental choice of cold meats, cheeses, hard boiled eggs and salad, hot bacon, scrambled eggs and beans, delicious breads, or croissants with home made preserves, cakes, pastries and tarts.....you name it, its there. Should you prefer made to order omelettes with various fillings, fried eggs or pancakes, then lovely Angela with make them for you and bring them to your table The hot beverage machine dispenses really lovely coffees and there is a wide choice of teas. You can even enjoy a glass of chilled Prosecco or make your own healthy smoothies. We enjoyed a leisurely breakfast every day and Im sure we must have consumed so many calories, but it was so hard to resist. This was our second stay at the Castello Lakefront, and since our last holiday, some of the rooms have been updated and are very stylish and modern. Ours had a balcony with a small table and two chairs directly overlooking the lake. It was so nice to sit and read a book and enjoy a pre-dinner drink at the end of a busy day exploring the area. The only tiny criticism is that the shelving in the open wardrobe, (which was quite a small area anyway), was positioned slightly high, which meant that my full length trousers and maxi dresses were resting on the shelf, leaving less room for other items, however Im being extremely picky and I always take too many clothes! The hotel has a nice lawned area and a pebble beach on the edge of the lake. Swimming towels are provided in your room together with flip flops, which is a nice touch. Castello Lakefront hotel is very well placed for exploring the pretty town of Malcesine with its many bars and shops down cobbled streets and medieval alleyways. Right beside the hotel is the castle, which houses a very interesting museum all about the formation of the lake, the flora and fauna etc. We also witnessed the preparations for a wedding which was going to be taking place in the castle grounds..............what a stunning location for a ceremony and the hotel is the perfect choice for wedding party accommodation and a wonderful reception. Should you wish to visit other towns on the lake, wind your way down to the harbour area where many boats depart throughout the day. We went across to Limone and Riva del Garda, both of which were very interesting and lovely places in which to while away an hour or two, however we always loved coming back to Malcesine. A short walk over the main road behind the hotel takes you to the cable car for Monte Baldo. It is such a bonus to have this facility in the town in which youre staying. What a fabulous experience! The views from the top are breathtaking and there are a couple of caf restaurants. If you are a keen walker you could spend all day up there. Dont linger too long over breakfast that day though, and purchase your tickets from the hotel reception to avoid queuing as the queue starts to build up very early. We went over at 10am and had to queue for about an hour even though wed already purchased our tickets, but it was well worth the wait. On the second half of the ascent, the cable cars turn a slow 360 degrees so that everyone gets the opportunity to appreciate the view on the way up. Whilst staying on the lake there is the opportunity to visit Verona and attend the opera in the coliseum there, have a trip into the Dolomites, or to Venice. All in all we enjoyed a very varied and interesting holiday, made all the more special by our stay at the Hotel Castello Lakefront. Thank you to Matteo, Marco and father Hugo for a wonderful stay. Your whole team are wonderful and we look forward very much to our next visit to your lovely hotel. Lynn Simmons

    • Two unforgettable visits to Hotel Castello

We stayed at the beautiful hotel Castello Lake front for our wedding at the castle in 2018. One year later and we returned to celebrate our first anniversary along with my wives 30th. The hotel and the staff were just as excellent as our original visit. Making both special occasions unforgettable. With the restaurant / breakfast area undergoing a redesign since our first visit, its a beautiful place to start the day, in a lovely modern, clean restaurant accompanied with views across the lake. There is an incredible range of fresh hot and cold food on offer for breakfast, made to order omelettes, fresh fruit and delicious pastries and cakes, along with fresh juices and Prosecco. The hotel and the rooms are clean, modern and spacious, we have been fortunate to have balcony views both times, aircon for those not accustomed to the heat is top notch. The hotel has its own large grassed sunbathing area that allows you to walk out directly for a refreshing dip in the lake (great on hot days). Its also possible to have cocktails, coffees etc served to you from here. We ate at Al Bacio on both occasions, beautiful food paired with some of the best views in Malcesine to watch the special sunsets on the Lake. The hotel is perfectly placed away from any busy busy areas of Malcesine, but only 3 mins walk to the town centre, and other areas of interest. Highly recommend purchasing tickets for the Monte Baldo cable car directly from the hotel, as it means you skip any large queues. Hotel Castello is a family run hotel and it shows, in their passion for making guests stay second to none, making you feel like a member of the family during your stay. As a keen photographer and a big fan on the local Hugo cocktail (Castello makes the best!) Marco allowed me to get some shots of him making some drinks, despite being very busy. Myself and my wife love to explore and visit new places, however Malcesine and Hotel Castello will always be in our hearts and will be the exception for returning multiple times. We cant wait to return to this absolute gem and revisiting all the friendly faces there. Robert Beasley

Having woken from a restful slumber in your comfortable bed; fortified by a breakfast selection fit for royalty - how to spend the coming day in fair Malcesine? Wander the cobbled streets, ascending to the ancient castle jealously guarding the bustling town? Scale Monte Baldo to witness the boldest of paragliders launch into the azure skies above the sparkling lake? Enjoy an espresso in a harbour cafe as you watch the world meander by? Hunt for that perfect leather bag in the many shops and market? As evening falls, return to the jewel of Malcesine's hotels - Hotel Castello. Savour a delicious meal in the restaurant 'Al Bacio', with the most attentive of service, while watching the sun's final rays crown the mountain peaks in gold. That this was our fourth visit to Hotel Castello Lakefront and that we have already booked to return in 2020 is testament to how highly we rate this hotel. This year we had a spacious room in the immaculately designed and thoughtfully equipped living suite which has been constructed in the past couple of years and is a few steps from the main hotel. The view of Lake Garda from our room, and from all the public rooms in the hotel is staggering and we spent many hours on our balcony just enjoying it. I attach some pictures to prove this! All the staff in the hotel are kind and thoughtful and search year that we return it is like seeing old friends. The hotel has many things to recommend it but one of the most important must be the incredibly generous breakfast buffet which is a feast not just for the tastebuds but for all the senses. Food for lunch and dinner is of very high quality and is served on the terrace when weather permits (which is most of the time). The hotel receives extra points from me for not playing music on the terrace dining area or in the lounge. This allows guests to enjoy the sound of the waves lapping on the shore of the lake and the gentle murmur of conversation. We arrived tired and stressed but left, two weeks later, refreshed and relaxed. See you all next year!
