Call to arrange airport pick up in advance of your stay, they are right there to whisk you to the hotel. Upon arrival was treated to an upgrade room. Very comfortable, quiet. The facility is remarkable in the restoration. Pool opens early, nice work out area. Fun lobby bar, breakfast at the restaurant was yummy. Friendly staff throughout the property. Free parking out front if you drive to the hotel. Lots of great restaurants within easy walk. By the way did not experience and ghost sightings, some folks have reported otherwise.

    • Trains, Trains, Trains - Hotel By The Tracks!

      Reviewed 17 September 2019

Just had a horrible night's sleep getting woken up time after time at the Blackhawk. Before staying here, everyone should be aware that trains are passing by day and night with their horns blasting. I brought up my concern about this to the front desk after check in and was told this noise would be all around the hotel - and apologized for being out of ear plugs. If sleep is a priority, do not stay here.

    • Great facilities

I would really like to give the Hotel Blackhawk 5 stars, but a few minor flaws keep me from doing so. First the good points. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Especially one person in particular, Ron Epping. He made us feel like he was our personal connoisseur. My night vision is not that great, so he gave us a ride to an evening concert in the hotel shuttle. He helped us with our luggage, explained a lot about the hotel, and said if we needed anything, he would take care of us. A true A+ employee. The spa at the hotel was great, with very reasonable prices, considering the upscale atmosphere. They also had a bowling alley, which we used, an indoor pool, workout room, restaurant, and cocktail lounges on the main floor and in the bowling alley. Free on site self parking, which is almost unheard of at a downtown hotel location. It is near many downtown attractions. The restaurant had good food, and the Sunday brunch was really nice, because they had the Josh Duffy combo playing music from the 20's and 30's. The hotel itself is beautiful, as it's restored to it's past glory. The room was very clean, and housekeeping serviced the rooms very promptly. So why not 5 stars? We stayed in the whirlpool suite, which had a very huge bathroom with vanity, toilet, a large stand up shower, and a large whirlpool tub. The room itself seemed rather small for a suite. No bigger than a standard room. The fitted sheets on the bed did not fit right, or were too small for the bed. Every time you rolled over at night, the fitted sheet would come off. The refrigerator was stocked with bar items and soft drinks. I really hate that. We asked if we could remove the items, and then put them back before we checked out, as we bring our own favorite items. I wanted to make sure we wouldn't be charged for anything, if they checked on a daily basis. Also, the refrigerator had no freezer to place our ice blocks in. The hotel was nice enough to put them in one of their freezers for us, until we checked out. When we checked out, and I received my final bill, we were charged $5.50 for one of the bar items. Somehow I just knew that would happen, that's why I hate those stocked rooms. Now for the 4 days we were there, I spent around $1,500 on the room, spa, bowling alley, restaurant, and downstairs lounges, so I certainly wouldn't try to beat them out of $5.50. It's just the principle of being charged for something you didn't use. I called the hotel about it, and they removed the charge, and did not question or argue about it. They said it could have been on the wrong room, or an inventory mistake. All in all, it was a pleasant stay, and I would return.

    • Place to stay when in the area

      Reviewed 06 July 2019

Quaint hotel that is not your everyday hotel. Lots of history and good place to stay. Staff is friendly but needs more training as many times they struggled with minor questions that could become service issues . Different answers from different people to same question. All in all I would definitely stay here again when in this area .
