    • Spend your thousands somewhere else! You wont regret it.

Beautiful house. If you want to spend thousands of dollars to rent a beautiful house and spend thousands of dollars on food and water during that time with crabby female landlord this is the place for you! There is nothing to do on the island that you cant do in one day. You will need to spend hundreds of dollars to rent a boat for 6 or less to go on an excursion. You will need to get used to standing at the water nozzle for non-sulfur water to drink and cook with. (Or buy water bottles like we did since we drink a lot of water). Showers are also sulfur water. Hot tub is like bathtub tempso NOT a hot tub. Internet is best in one spot so everyone gets to be quiet during conference calls etc. Multiple problems with golf carts. The land lady is beyond rude and you can tell she really does not want to be a landlord. Here is just one response to a question if we needed to bring additional toilet paper. Innocent question with and over the top aggressive response! We provide 2 rolls of toilet paper PER bathroom. I hope you don't use two rolls of toilet paper in each bathroom for 7 days with 8 people (that would be 12 rolls of toilet paper - 5100 sheets!!!). There are 425 sheets per roll divided by 7 days = 61 sheets per day per bathroom for just one roll. We are on a septic and it will clog up and overflow for sure. I was there in December for a month and used one roll in the master bath. Strongly encourage you to take your family or group to an island that has something to do, places to get amenities, and ample water supply. Spend your thousands on a vacation you will enjoy throughly. Not this one. Worst rental we have ever rented. Worst island we have ever been to. Lesson learned.

    • Ah....North Captiva is Paradise!

North Captiva Island is beautiful; peaceful; serene. Blue Fin is a beautiful home. Great sunsets. You can see the Owners have taken a lot of pride in making their property a perfect vacation place. Our 3 granddaughters absolutely loved their little hideaway bunk room. Beds were comfy. Kitchen well-equipped. Nightly meals on deck were great with the sunset behind us. I would have given Blue Fin 5 stars; however, I don't think the home was quite prepared for our arrival. Our recent visit was post Irma/Maria. Although both the owners and the on-site property manager were very responsive, it still created some disappointment. The property manager could not have been more attentive. With that said, I would consider a return visit.

Ok.. North Captive Island vacations are wonderful... but you have to be up for an "adventure" to get there. My wife and I enjoyed 4 days a few years ago in "The Green Flash" a wonderful beachfront home with a fantastic view. We saw that The Green Flash is closer to the beach .. by many feet due to eroding beach... but still looks like a fantastic venue. Ok.. so we had 6 adults and 3 kids. 10 year old Abby 3 year old Ellie and 18 month old Paul. We cam into RSW Friday nite and stayed at Springhill Suites. All good. Utilized Pine Island Taxi who arrived in a high top ford transit van which would accommodate probably 12 with luggage and enough room for our Publix food order pickup... and booze stop .. same shopping center. Coral Shores. Left Publix for a short drive.. to Island Seafood... Andy there will hook you up with Grouper Snapper and shrimp... then to the North Captiva Island Club Reception Center.. Check in there.. unload your stuff... tag it with your house number... Your stuff goes in a truck.. to the marina.. to a boat... to the island. You and yours go into another shuttle... to the marina... to a ferry to the island. Depending on check in time... you may have to hang at the NCIC pool.. have lunch.. relax... or you may be lucky like us and your house if ready. Our house manager Jason met us at the dock .. set us up with golf carts took us to the house.. gave us a tour with instructions on all the technology... and left us in good hands to enjoy our vacation. We enjoyed the pool beach kayaking in the bay rented a boat for the day did I say walked the beach ate at the Boat House Barnicles and ordered more seafood from Andy at Island Seafood. Mangos will order for you or you can call Andy and it comes over to Barnacles on Island Girl Water Taxi same day. $15 service charge... worth every penny. So the house is fantastic.... everything you need for a great vacation. We took too much food... but that was ok. Even the mid week food trip to fill in with some major items like steaks.. But I'd say lean it down a bit. We had the three kids so we wanted to make sure we were covered for them. I think our food bill for 9 was $750 for the week. Not including adult beverages. The house has a water purifier at the sink so bottle water was not needed. Just take along containers for your drinking water to take to the beach and such. The three bedrooms ... masters were great. Nan and I took the master on the top floor off the living room dining room kitchen area. Isolated from the kids. Good call. The second floor rooms were great. The bunk room for the kids is outstanding. Stairs. You will lose a few pounds.. three flights to the top floor. Lucky the NCIC folks deliver your luggage and put it where its supposed to go... tip them well and they will come back on departure day to pick up your stuff. It does have to be on the porch on departure day. So.. advice you say. Pack Light !!! I took double what I needed. Really .. 2-3 pair of shorts couple of t shirts.. couple of those summer long sleeve anti sun shirts... cabelas had them 4 pair under shorts... Maybe one nicer short/shirt combo for dinner at The Boat House... just because its nice ... there is a washer and dryer (take pods). But you can really get buy with a small suitecase. Bug Spray and Sun Screen. Yes.. the skeeders are everywhere. Especially after 6pm and in the morning.. ok.. most of the time. Deep Woods Off was the only one that worked for us. Hats... anything to help keep the sun off of you. Sunscreen must be re applied so if you are out like in a boat.. wear those long sleeve shirts and re apply that sunscreen every couple of hours. Departure... basically same as getting there.... like I said... not necessarily easy... but still worth it. I can say that everything was as advertised... with one exception... I think that the words Beachfront is a little of a stretch for the description of this house. Not that the 300 ft walk to the beach is any big deal... and the house would stand on its own without the Beachfront description.... but in my humble opinion... not beachfront. There are many homes beachfront... and sure.. they are nice too I am sure... I think that the ammenities this home has makes up for the short walk to the beach. not a big deal. I just don't think it should be advertised as beachfront. Would we go back to Bluefin... absolutely. I think we did pretty good this trip. Not much more we would do different other than pack a little lighter and not take as much food as we did. Maybe rent a boat for another day. Ok.. the Boathouse was a nice meal. Little pricy but a nice night out away from the family... Barnicles... nice beachy bar restaurant... pricy too... but good food. Tripple tail snapper sammyich was great. So.. put North Captiva on your list... Pick a house ... do your research... and enjoy the adventure.

We absolutely loved our stay at Bluefin Beach house, this home is absolutely beautiful with amazing views from all angles. We only had a short walk to the beach which allowed us to come and go as we needed or wanted too. This rental provides everything you could want for a family vacation. Our group ranged from ages 2 to 60 and we all had an amazing time on North Captiva Island.
