    • Beautiful

We went for 4 nights in the middle of July and had a wonderful stay. It would have helped if we could have camped near the disabled facilities as the toilets etc at the bottom of the field all have a step to enter. But the staff were super helpful generally and they were all very thoughtful and polite. The environment on the field was generally fun and it did go quiet around 10 which I found conducive to a decent sleep. Electric pitches were easy to find and all the pitches were a decent size, ok for a 4 m bell not so sure on a 6 m bell fitting on a pitch though. Wash and shower areas were clean. Hot water was plentiful and bins were emptied timely. Fab location for Forest of Dean, off floor barbecue allowed but not wood fires - fair enough no wood burning allowed at all. We will be going back some time.

    • Great location

We recently stayed here for a week. The site was well located with lots of walks straight from the site. This was a real bonus. The wardens were very friendly and helpful. The toilet blocks were ok if a little tired. Water was hot which was the main thing! In terms of clientele we found quite a few people felt it was ok to ignore the dogs on lead request - much to the annoyance of our dog who was on a lead. There was also quite a lot of people playing load music in the evening which wasnt ideal. Its a pity other people were not a bit more respectful as this rather spoilt our time here.

We spent several days at Bracelands last summer during the heatwave and had such a great time we decided to visit again this year. The weather was rather different this year; a mixture of sunshine, heavy rain, thick fog and below average temperatures. Nonetheless we had a very pleasant stay with so many walking routes to enjoy but not many al fresco meals. The site is still just as lovely and well maintained, both the grounds and the shower blocks. Reception only sells milk, papers and ice creams. Forest Holidays, just down the road has a well stocked shop and a very pleasant cafe with a lovely terrace. Their daytime menu is quite varied but the evening menu (after 5pm) is limited to burgers, pizzas and pies. The Dairy, a convenience store, is about a 3/4 mile walk from the campsite. It is well stocked but as with Forest Holidays shop only sells a very limited range of meat and vegetables; no good for a weekly shop. We were in a motorhome, without a car, so everywhere we went was on foot, this was a walking holiday after all! We didnt try the village pubs this year as we were disappointed with them last year and one of them was about a 30 minute walk along a busy road. Bracelands is a very relaxing site to visit. It is a big site and we had a grass pitch at the bottom of the site this time which was much more level than the hard standing pitches at the top of the site. It was also less busy as we had almost no-one pitched near us for the whole of our stay. The only niggles a lack of soap dishes in the showers and the cubicles were rather cramped and there was no sink in the laundry room for hand wash laundry. However, this was more than made up for by the nesting swifts just above the laundry room door. It looked like four fat babies in the nest almost on the point of fledging. I went to visit them everyday. The parents were working overtime zooming in and out trying to keep the hungry mouths fed. It was delightful. Just like the campsite itself. There is no WiFi on this site so had to rely on mobile data but the best signal we could get was 3G. I should mention that another reason for choosing to visit the Forest of Dean in 2019 was that we spent part of our honeymoon, in 1969, at The Speech House near Coleford. We had been back once in 1973, then last year and it seemed appropriate to go back this year.

I want to say a huge thank you to the staff at Bracelands for helping my daughter and myself last weekend. You really were amazing. The site is lovely and situated right on the edge of the forest. There are plenty of toilets and showers and lots of room on the grass pitches so you are not on top of each other.

    • money grabbers!

We are a couple but with two single tiny tents, We do not own a two man tent as we occasionally go camping separately. We tried booking with this campsite as we really liked the idea of camping in a forest. However, we were very disappointed when the site insisted on charging us for two separate pitches doubling our bill from about 80 for 5 nights to 160. I asked if this was a health and safety issue and explained that we would be eating together, sharing the same stove but they said no, it was their policy to double charge! Needless to say, I did not proceed with the booking and found a far more friendly site nearby.
