While the exterior of this Holiday Inn Express gave the impression of a modern, up-to-date facility (when we looked at it online before making our reservation), the rooms and service were definitely sub-standard. Interior decor was very dated painted in very dark, dated colors like dark maroon. Our room was dank and stale-smelling, with dark, dirty carpeting, an old tub with poor sealant around plumbing fixtures, a long black hair in the tub, a bathroom sink that drained poorly, the ice bucket set NEXT TO THE TOILET (E. Coli, anyone?) instead of in the living/bedroom/kitchen area is DISGUSTING. Pillows were poor the kind that have the filling that migrated to both ends when you put your head on the pillow. We were able to get better pillows on request. Neither of the old TVs in our two rooms worked any better than sporadically. No repairs or replacements available, despite complaints. Our guests in another room had a completely non-working TV, and staff claimed (falsely) that there were no available alternate rooms to which our guests could move, until our guests put pressure on the staff. Then a suite magically became available when our guests were forced to turn their polite request to have a room with a working TV into a firm demand. We were shocked to find not one USB port in our room. Not a crisis, only an inconvenience but nevertheless unexpected in the year 2019. This place seemed more like a motel than a hotel fingerprints and dirt on elevators and other common areas. We were told by staff that we should put our trash and used bath linens on the floor outside our room. WTH? HVAC was dated and very noisy, and circulated only in half of our large room. Half the room that was in front of the HVAC, so that half was freezing. The other half of the room (where the bed was situated) got no air circulation so we couldnt get a reasonable temperature comfort level. A lot of street noise was heard at all hours poor soundproofing. Breakfast was poorly restocked. Didnt see staff while we were at breakfast. Food quality was no more than OK. Frequently no one at the front desk. So far as we could tell, only ONE luggage rack for the entire facility. It puzzles us whether the IHG chain, of which the Holiday Inn Express is a part, has ever inspected this facility and if they did, and how they ever approved it as acceptable to IHG. It just seemed as if it was run on a penny-wise, pound foolish financial basis. Time to repaint, replace nasty carpeting, replace all the broken TVs, update the HVAC, retrain staff, and operate this facility in a far better manner than it is operated now. These are just the highlights of a very disappointing experience.

Pleasant family stay, with small dog. Everywhere was clean, rooms, dining area, pool area and outside areas. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Beds were fabulously comfortable. No traffic noise. Breakfast was better than most hotels. Within walking distance to two moderately-priced restaurants.

We stayed at this hotel because it was close to the trail that we wanted to ride our bikes on. It was clean, quiet, and comfortable. The front desk staff was friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good.

We stayed three nights over the fourth of July holiday to explore the Hocking Hills area. Unfortunately, we were travelers in a pet friendly facility who did not bring a pet. I was woke up several times during my first night there by a yapping dog in the next room. I asked the front desk clerk about the pet policy. She advised me that generally they keep pets to the first floor. Well, we were guests on the first floor without a pet. She said when the first floor is full, they assign to the second floor. I explained to her I asked because I was woke up several times by a yapping dog in the room next to us. And furthermore, this seems to indicate that there are no designated rooms for pets, that every room can be assigned to someone traveling with a pet. Not a comfortable thought for me as I imagined dogs were possibly sleeping in our bed previously. And what if I had a pet allergy?? So unfortunately, my complaint at this hotel is about a guest with a barking dog. We were offered to possibly change rooms if she could find something available. We didn't pursue the matter any further . Otherwise, our king room was quite comfortable and large. It included a "kitchen" area which has sink, microwave, fridge w/freezer and multiple cabinets. The bathroom is large and was clean. Free breakfast has ample offerings that should satisfy most travelers. The ladies working the breakfast were exceptionally nice. Ample free parking.

    • Clean room with maintenance issues!

We stayed here for one night. Decided to take a last minute trip to Hocking Hills and this was what was available. The room was decently clean. However there was several maintenance issues during our stay! The fridge didn't work properly and we had to throw food out. The tub faucet was leaking a steady stream of water! The phone didn't work! And my personal favorite, I got up in the middle of the night and we had no running water in the bathroom. I had to go down to the main lobby in my pjs to use the restroom! The girl at the desk said something about it having something to do with the washing machines running. I'm assuming this happens from time to time. I would also like to mention that this hotel offers smoking rooms! I can't fault them for that because it's listed on there website. However, I assumed that they would have their own area in the hotel. This is not the case. They were beside our room and a couple hours after going to bed I woke up to a strong odor of cigarettes in our room. I had to open a window and leave the air running in order to be cool enough to sleep but also be able to breath! This hotel is a smokers paradise. The were lined up on all sides of the hotel smoking everywhere. I even saw one hanging out one of the back doors. Smoke was coming in the door. If you at all health conscience I would stay somewhere else! The management did contact me to apologize and I was given a discount! Which I do appreciate! However I'm sad to say I won't be returning!
