    • Excellent convention experience

      Reviewed 11 June 2019

Speaking as both staff and a member of the League of Women Voters of Illinois, the hotel staff could not have been more accommodating during our 3-day state convention. From the time we arrived Thursday night til the time we ended our last session early on Sunday afternoon, every staff member I encountered was friendly and helpful. The ballroom was well lit, the sound quality of the equipment and the acoustics of the room were spot on. The separate meeting rooms offered plenty of bright and pleasant space for our 150 or so members who attended from across the state. My spacious room was comfortably appointed to get work done. I took advantage of both the ergonomic desk and the tabletop that slid up to the couch. Outlets and powers strips that included USB ports were well positioned throughout The food was plentiful and delicious, and the hospitality staff extra nimble when we had 50 more people than expected join us for lunch. Thank you for an all-around great convention experience!

I just spent 3 nights at this hotel. One star got knocked off because the first night the air conditioning did not function properly and it was a sweat box - I barely slept. I went to the front desk in the morning to ask for a room change - and the nice desk clerk told me the a/c was on a motion sensor that caused the a/c to turn off when no motion is detected. She had maintenance over ride the sensor and it was fine the rest of my stay. That said my first night was sleepless so bye bye to a star. The next star dropped this morning on my way out the door. We had arranged for the free shuttle to take us to the train station at 9:45. There was one desk clerk- I did not get his name but he has platinum blond hair and a HUGE attitude. Anyway...we were waiting at 9:40 and blondie was helping a pair with check-in. ( much explaining that the room wasn't ready but they would call blah blah blah. At 9:50 I went to desk and stood there for a couple minutes hoping he would glance my direction. Nope. Just yammering on about what these people could do to kill time till there room was ready. Finally I said I apologize I don't mean to interrupt and blondie looks at me and said but you just did!!! Lose the attitude buddy. Then I said - I am sorry but we reserved the shuttle for 9:45 and its not here and I am getting worried about making my train. Blondie said - she went to get the shuttle. Not really an answer. Anyway- the people checking in move along and blondie comes and asks what room number the reservation was under. Why does that matter ? He goes out to the parking lot and comes back in and says shes not out there. Maybe she took some other people. I dont see her. Now it is 9:55 and I am highly irritated. It is Memorial Day weekend - the train is sold out- some friends of ours had tried to rent a car to drive to Chicago the day before and there were no rental cars available . The next train is 7 pm if you can even get a ticket. And i have this fool acting like he has done his job by looking in the parking lot for the shuttle person. So I said listen we need to get to the train station NOW ( yes I raised my voice at the end of the sentence since he did not seem to have ANY sense of urgency) To which Blondie gives me a mini lecture. not talk to me that way. I will not be spoken to that way. If you would like I can phone you a taxi and we can cover the cost for you. I said fine but I was on my phone getting an uber. I hear him call and explain to the taxi dispatcher that I needed to make a 10:10 train and that the shuttle driver was MIA and that they should take us to the train station and then come back and give him the receipt. He comes over and said a taxi would be here in 3-5 minutes. If you are doing the math that would put us at the train station when the train was leaving the station. Anyway - uber arrived and we made the train...but that whole exchange was INEXCUSABLE. Other than him- the staff was very nice and friendly at the hotel. Room was neat and clean. Water pressure good in shower. Bed comfortable..

They charged us $10 for a breakfast which was the same breakfast which is generally free at all other a Holiday Inns. And it was terrible. Hotel was super noisy and way over priced! We will not be going back to this hotel

    • Wonderful Staff- Needed extra help and was totally and pleasantly accomodated!!

Great facility, but the staff was even more wonderful. Hospitality was the specialty of the entire staff. We used room service for breadfast, the food was very good, hot and served on time. The parking was great and there were entrances placed to accomodate easy access to the rooms from the lots.

    • Updated hotel, (not Wyndham anymore!!) good experience!!

      Reviewed 09 March 2019

I had read other fairly recent recent reviews since this hotel transitioned from Wyndham to a Holiday Inn and I was a little hesitant to stay here. However, my loyalty is with IHG and the price was right, so I felt we needed to give it a try. The lobby is fresh and obviously newly renovated. The bar/restaurant area is also newly redone and looks great. Our check in was swift and polite at 9:30 pm after a University of Illinois basketball game (it is very close to State Farm Center and Memorial Stadium). Our double queen bed room was very nicely appointed, all new beds and furniture, lots of space and places to put things. (Small pet peeve is bathroom does not have separated sink/mirror area from shower/toilet area, but its not a deal breaker.) We paid in advance for the breakfast buffet to get a little discount on it, and I was curious to see if it was better than your standard free included breakfast that is offered at other hotels. The answer is yes, and I will tell you why! The food itself was fairly basic but tasty and plentiful. But for me, having a nice booth, with friendly service and my coffee cup kept filled the entire time, was worth the money. We had a very attentive server (Misha) who took excellent care of us. We were able to extend our check out time by an hour which enabled my husband to work from our room before we left. So in conclusion, the new Holiday Inn in Champaign is great! Give it a try, pay for the breakfast in advance to get a discount, and enjoy!!
