    • Great place to check out

If you are around Nuevo Casas Grandes, take the time to check out Paquime. The site is well laid out, with signs in English and Spanish about each structure. It is free to walk around, but there is a fee to enter the museum (well worth it on a hot day for the A/C). They were restoring parts and excavating some parts as of July 2019. The museum is great. It provides a lot of historical context to the Paquime natives as well as their relationship to others in the surrounding area. There is a cafe as well with some food and drink items, and lots of opportunities for pictures. Fee was only 75 pesos per adult with kids 12 and under free.

At a 30 minute drive from Nuevo Casas Grandes, Chihuahua, Mexico, If not the only, Paquim is the best archeological site of the Pueblo culture in Mexico. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1998. There is no regular public transportation to reach it, so you must have your own vehicle or take a taxi to get there, but its visit is absolutely worthwhile. The on-site museum is wonderful because of its architecture and contents as it not only talks about the findings in Paquim but also about the Pueblo and other contemporary cultures in southern USA and northern Mexico. The Paquim ruins, which are quite restored and occupy a not large area, plus the museum, allow us to learn a lot about the Pueblo natives, their culture, construction techniques and way of living. We were very lucky to visit Paquim with the certified guide Azucena Durn (phone number 52 (636) 110 9214). She also took us to visit the unique pottery town of Mata Ortiz as well as the Mormon town of colonia Jurez which is around 15 minute away. Azucena lives nearby, knows a lot about those cultures, is friendly, easy going, professional, flexible and helpful. Our group of nine people was highly satisfied with her guiding and thorough explanations so we highly recommend her whenever anyone wants to have a more enriching experience when visiting Paquim or other interesting places in and around Nuevo Casas Grandes.

    • Fascinating UNESCO World Heritage Archeological Site of Paquime, Casas Grandes

Huge archeology site of pre-Columbian settlement. Started around 1130 with rebuilding in 1350 of multi-story buildings (Casas Grandes). The buildings are wonderfully preserved with continual repairs taking place due to weather wearing away the adobe structures. This place is fascinating and provides a greater onsite to the peoples who once resided here. The museum contains many of the pre Columbian artifacts unearthed here. The shop has a wonderful collection of Mata Ortiz pottery for sale.

    • Interesting? Yes. Top-notch? No

This archaeological site provides affirmation of the adobe architecture in the early years. It's fascinating to see. I, however, was expecting so much more based on the overwhelming positive reviews it received. Amazing, spell-bound, top-notch, it is not. The photos make it look so vast but it won't even take you an hour to walk through it. There is a museum, though, which has interesting paintings and relics. The souvenir shop offers some quaint items but quite over-priced. It's worth the visit if you are in the area.
