    • The Grand Hotel that Time Forgot

I should begin by saying that we visited in the off-season (end of July/early August) and it may be unfair to judge the hotel at a time when repairs are being undertaken and many staff are doubtless on vacation. That said, the hotel is badly in need of refreshing/renovation/repair. The large pool is beautiful; handrails are rusty or damaged, some cracks in the tiles, and there was NO service - neither towels nor bar - and only a few deck chairs with cushions, the rest bare. The second, smaller pool, was not maintained when we were there. Our suite was large, with excellent fluffy towels and Bulgari soaps, lotions, shampoo, etc., exactly as one would expect of a fine hotel. Mini bar was a nice touch, but restocked only once. The armoire had keys and locks missing; the "jacuzzi tub" did not work and was slightly rusted; WiFi was iffy; and the phone (for local calls) never worked. Housekeeping is excellent. The staff are charming and helpful, and clearly try their best, but there is not much they can do to stem the tide of physical deterioration (the wooden handrail on the front steps came off in my hand as I was walking up.) This is all very sad, as the grounds of the hotel - very well maintained - are truly beautiful, and one experiences a sense of history as one strolls through them to and from the very traditional lounge and dining rooms (Winston Churchill, the Duke of Windsor, etc. etc.) It may be that rooms outside of the main building are better maintained - some were being worked on when we were there - but in the main building they show their age. This is not a good hotel either for children (the pools are too deep) or the physically challenged - many uneven stairs both within and without. The hotel is well worth visiting, but not for an extended stay.

did a quick walk through of hotel on our city tour. Definitely old British rule hotel. grounds were pretty and pool was really beautiful, but not much breeze back in that area so was really hot. We never saw one employee the whole time which was a bit weird since it is a hotel, except for the guy at the pool bar and only two people were in the pool.

    • Terrible Experience

Terrible experience there today. We came to Nassau on a cruise - home base is Seattle. Back in April I booked a day getaway for myself and my kids at Graycliff. Apparently when I made the reservation, a mistake was made and the res was made for April 25 as opposed to July 25 (today). My mistake? Website mistake? Whatever - a mistake was made - which I was unaware of. We arrived, were taken down to the pool, and then the receptionist came to get us saying there was a problem and she needed her manager. She then basically accused me of lying to her as she pointed out the discrepancies in the dates. And told me that the reservation had been used by someone in April. OK - well whoever used it wasnt me and my kids - we have never been to Nassau before. Im super curious as to who DID get to utilize my $360 day passes ..... and why ID wasnt checked? Or did anyone really utilize it at all? Anyway - this could have easily been resolved and I could have just payed for another day - but after the nastiness of the receptionist and she and the manger essentially accusing me of lying, I took the kids and left. Just a suggestion for Graycliff management - a little courtesy goes a long way - and if anyone had listened to me, I think it would have been pretty apparent that mistakes were made on both sides. I did NOT fly across the country on April 25 with three little kids to use your pool.....

    • Worst hotel I've ever stayed in

Staff were awful: they never brought what you asked for, service was glacially slow, they were rude and unhelpful. The pool/garden areas are dirty, it's almost impossible to get pool towels. When it rained, the rain came through the ceiling, dripped into our room and woke us up. When I reported this the next morning, there was no apology!

    • Bad food, predatory pricing. Avoid!!

Tourist trap disguised as fine dining. Terrible food. Prices laughably high. Dilapidated building with what looked like a highway entrance-ramp directly below the windows of the dining room. Sound of heavy traffic and police sirens punctuated an already dismal experience. Taxi driver picked us up at hotel and came back for return trip. Ten minutes each way, round trip taxi fare: $40. A perfect crime by all.
