    • Good hotel right next to the town

      Reviewed 23 September 2019

Easy enough to find, despite roadworks and you walk out the back gate right into the town, so very conveniently located. Room was a good size and comfortable. Walked to a local bakers and cafe for breakfast, les than half the price the hoetl would have charged. I would come back here.

    • Total disappointment

I had booked a standard double room. When I arrived to my room, in the charmless "Roman wing" (actually a modern annex), it was a single room. I went back to reception only to be told that the hotel was overbooked and that's why I had been given that room (in other words, I had been downgraded without warning). Finally they found me a double room on the ground floor of the Roman wing facing... the parking lot. Not what I expected when booking at an old monastery turned into a 5* hotel. The room was old and lacked natural light. The next morning the breakfast room was full, not enough seats for all the guests, I felt like at a canteen while staff looked on, puzzled and lost, at all the mess (there was a car event going on, maybe this didn't help). One coffee machine for the whole room, seriously? Maybe I was unlucky and rooms in the Napolean wing are nicer, maybe staff are usually professional, maybe breakfast is usually not a nightmare. But next time I'll book one of the many boutique hotels of Utrecht.

    • We love this hotel, but...

      Reviewed 19 September 2019

We love Utrecht and this hotel, we were returning visitors. It is really special. However - at the moment there are massive works at the front of the hotel to recreate the canal. Once finished this will make the hotel even more fabulous. Unfortunately at the moment a number of rooms are affected by visual and sound disruption. We always cycle to the back of the hotel, but it looks like cars arrive at the front and we couldn't see how they would have easy access. The hotel should be notifying guests in advance. I would agree that the rooms are looking a little tired, however the surroundings and communal areas still make this an amazing choice. The staff are delightful and professional, without exception. The lighting in the rooms is dismal, if you want to read take a torch !

    • Wonderful hotel

      Reviewed 17 September 2019

Top-notch and historic hotel with very comfortable and clean rooms, really beautiful function rooms, excellent food, extremely helpful and friendly staff, and location right in the historic part of town. The bistro was highly attentive to issue relating to gluten sensitivity. We would absolutely stay here again in Utrecht.

    • Tired rooms

Great location, great building but starts to look tired with outdated furniture and tired rooms. Not impressed by cleaning either. Time for a overhaul to stay on 5* star level. Architecture and garden impressive and for sure best location with parking on site.
