    • So relaxing and excellent service

      Reviewed 30 August 2019

We spent a week at the Furnas Boutique hotel, and it was wonderful. From the time we checked in until the day we checked out the service was excellent. The room wasn't huge, but we were on the first floor and had a small patio to relax on. I think we will be back again soon.

    • Nice hotel, bad spa and restaurant

      Reviewed 26 August 2019

After reading so many positive reviews, admittedly our hopes were high for our stay at Furnas Boutique Hotel this past August. Unfortunately, our expectations were not met across the following key areas. SERVICE The service was a mix between friendly and happy-to-help to inpatient, disgruntled, and unprofessional depending on the person of the day. Overall we expected more consistent, high quality service. THE SPA Both my wife and I had terrible experiences at the overbooked, understaffed spa. My therapist had nails that I could feel digging into me the entire duration of my treatment - Im shocked he did not have the awareness to realize this! Also, I ordered a sports massage and instead I received a Swedish massage with inconsistent pressure. It goes without saying, if I had known what I was in for, I would have never paid the 100 euros for the massage. Also the additional facial I payed 50 euros for afterwards was little more than cream applied to my face - no exfoliating, no face massaging, and not a facial! My wifes therapist, on the other hand, was unprofessional, had a poor attitude, took too long between treatment sections for her to disrobe and lay back down on the table, and finished her treatment about 5 minutes early (despite starting 5-10 min late)! We booked Furnas due to the spa and we were quite obviously upset with our experience. THE RESTAURANT Looking at the Furnas photos, youd expect a near-fine dining experience at the restaurant, A Terra. Our experience was far from it! Breakfast was fine (though uninteresting and with especially weak service), while lunch and dinner were completely mediocre at best. We tried traditional Portuguese fair that we had elsewhere and it was either over cooked, under seasoned, or both! We also were excited to dine at A Terra given the online presentation, though in reality the quality and execution fell short. On the positive, the rooms and housekeeping service were good. Keep in mind the garden view rooms have a view of the parking lot for the hotel and are therefore a bit misleading. I will be sure to update this if the hotel management concedes and offers anything as a result of our below average experiences.

    • Peaceful hotel

Staying with family on the island and spent a night here for our anniversary! So clean, quiet and peaceful. The pools were very relaxing, and the town of furnas is lovely to walk around and explore. Highly recommend this hotel!

    • Relaxing spa in the woods

      Reviewed 18 August 2019

Furnas Boutique is a very relaxing hotel with a wonderful spa in the back. Surrounded by hot springs and within walking distance of a beautiful park, this hotel is a very relaxing place to stay. While its location is not central, San Miguel Island is small enough that it is not a big deal, and it is very different from a typical hotel on a beach. The staff is very attentive and friendly. Mr. Goes, the manager, is a very reasonable and thoughtful man who leads an excellent staff. The rooms are a bit small, but the beds are comfortable and the hotel is compact enough that you dont have to walk great distances to get to the restaurant or the spa. The restaurant has burgers, pizza, steak, and fish for dinner, and a buffet breakfast. It has both inside and outside seating, and is casual. A great relaxing and casual hotel, I highly recommend Furnas Boutique Hotel.

    • Great 3 night stay!

      Reviewed 17 August 2019

Overall I liked the hotel. My favorites were the hotel's hot spring pools and the restaurant. The food and atmosphere in the restaurant are great! The room was a bit below my expectations I expected it to be a bit nicer, in pictures it looked better but generally it wasn't bad. I was also bummed that we did not get a nice view so if you care about that its worth requesting a room with a view on a higher floor we were in the ground level floor. The hotel is great for groups of friends, families and couples!
