    • A great hostel stay in a unique building

We booked a twin cell but were graciously upgraded to a double room with its own shower and toilet, which is gold in terms of hosteling. The room was large, comfortable and secure. The common spaces were well equiped and nicely furnished and encouraged a sense of community. The hostel itself is built within the walls of the original Fremantle prison and has a unique charm that should be experienced. The staff are extremely welcoming and helpful and make every effort to enhance your time there. The free breakfast was superb with plenty to choose from and the hostel even offers little extras such as a free dinner evening, a cheese and wine social, movie nights, etc. A great experience and definitely should be your top choice for this budget in Fremantle.

    • First hostel experience

This was my first hostel experience with my boyfriend and we were a little nervous as hostels tend to have a bad reputation. We were expecting things to be dirty and the shared utilities to be in bad condition. To our surprise the kitchen was clean when ever we needed to use it, breakfast was provided which adds to the affordability and although our room was small, it suited our needs. The location is perfect. The only reason it is a 4* is because we found it very difficult to sleep as the doors (or at least the cell wing we stayed in) had holes at the bottom of the door like a prison cell which i get add to the history but makes it pretty much impossible to sleep. If someone shuts a door or talks in the hallway, you could hear every word. Although this was a little inconvenient, i would definitely recommend this hostel, just bring some ear plugs.

    • Four walls, washbasin, prison cell...

Actually, you may have to queue for the washbasins in the restrooms - there isn't one in your room, which is about as basic as a private room can get, with only a double bunk, a table, two (uncomfortable) stools, a window, two power points and a fan. Then again, what else do you need? And on a more positive note, the location is excellent, barely a block from the Fremantle Markets and the cappuccino strip. The adapted cells are small, but they're secure and soundproofed (I could hear someone snoring while I was in the corridor, but nothing while I was back in my room). It's excellent value for money, with a free breakfast (pancakes on Sunday), and free wifi in the dining room and lounge. The staff were friendly and helpful, the kitchen is large and well equipped, and the public rooms and corridors are decorated with stories and images of the prison's history, It's not 5 star, but I'd be happy to stay here again.

    • Awesome place to stay

Hostel was AWESOME. We had a double room with en-suite. Room and en-suite were roomy and had a TV & fridge. Hostel is less than 10 mins walk to the centre of Freemantle and heaps of places to dine. Kitchen, Common Room & Laundry were all excellent. Parking is a little bit of a problem as almost everywhere in Freemantle is paid parking but the hostel does have 4 spots that you can reserves for a small fee. Wi-Fi in common areas is fine but not in all areas due to the makeup of the prison. All of the staff were extremely friendly & helpful & a huge thank you to the awesome Craig - extremely friendly, chatty & helpful.
