    • Great time at Dreams Tulum

Just got back from our visit. This is my second time staying at Dreams the first time was at Rivera Cancun. The drive was about 1 1/2 hour to resort and we used Happy Shuttle(Benjamin was our driver he was full of great information). As soon as we pulled up to the resort a golf cart was waiting to drive us to the preferred lounge. We got a drink and we checked in. We were persuaded to do the vacation club speech which I was dead set against, but they gave me $300 toward an excursion so we decided to do it. Our rooms were ready quick and they drove us to our Preferred swim out rooms. I have to say they really catered to us and were extremely friendly and checked on us many times to make sure everything was ok. We really liked the swim out room it was a good way to start and end the day. It was good if you wanted to go back to the room and relax the kids could still swim. FYI we had 2 rooms and none of these rooms have adjoining doors(which we were told they had). Thankfully they have rooms with a adjoining vestibule. We were able to have the kids right next to us and keep our doors open and keep the outer door closed. The a/c was fine and we had plenty of towels. No problems with the room. Food: We ate at every restaurant except sushi. The Italian and the french were the best.(you have to wear pants) Mexican we weren't a fan of and there is no a/c so it is very hot, especially since we sat in front of the grill. However we did like the breakfast here. The buffet was good nothing to complain about so many options. I was craving a good piece of cake and never got one I felt all the baked goods weren't fresh and mass produced. Coco cafe- loved the lattes and frozen coffees. Habachi-you have to book this in advance. It was good, habachi is habachi. Make sure to look on the I-pad to see what restaurants are open different restaurants are closed each days. Also the I-pad had the daily events. Pools: I liked the big pool better there was the swim up bar and that's where the entertainment was. The foam party was cool. Also the grill was there where they had really good hamburgers and nachos daily. Preferred Beach-I loved this area and loved having the Bail bed. Preferred members get 1 free day with a Bali bed, book it at the preferred club desk. The waiters (Benito) were awesome!! I just wish that there was a preferred pool or Bali beds by the pool. I'm more of a pool person and it was annoying having to walk to the pool to cool off then back to the beach. At Dreams Rivera Cancun they have Bali beds by the pool and that was great. The beach is rocky so wear swim shoes. The seaweed wasn't a problem, thankfully. Entertainment: It wasn't great and each show was about 1 hour at 9:00. The fire show and the break dancing were ok. The comedy show was horribly lame. There isn't much night life here. After the one show there is a band playing and that is it!! I do wish there was more stuff going on during the day and night. At Dreams Rivera Cancun they had so many things going on around the pool and they even cooked fresh food by the pool a few times which was awesome. At Tulum they only had Volleyball, and a game or two and some stuff on the beach. Vacation club- you will be asked to do this and you can say no!! They tell you it is 90min but it typically goes longer. Set your timer on your phone and let them know you will only give you 90min. They will do everything to persuade you to sign up. I'll admit I almost signed up. Do your research first it seems like a good deal but it really isn't. If you go you can get money off excursions, pictures, etc. We got $300 and we put it toward our Xel-ha excursion. Xel-ha- We went here and it was great. it cost $120 per adult with transportation and it is worth it. All day snorkeling, cliff jumping, tubing and all you can eat and drink. Great day!! Bring swim shoes. Also there is a lot of walking here! Pictures- Photographers walk around taking pictures of everyone. Get your photo taken. Take a minute and go to the photo store and look them over. You don't have to buy them, if you do they are $20 a picture or $130 for 10 plus they email them to you. They have other packages too, I bought the smallest package. The bad: I was disappointed that we were not told that the teen club and the smoothie cafe would be closed for renovations. I think the resort should let you know before you get there. They also never replenished my alcohol in my fridge. (was I supposed to call and ask?) Also be prepared to walk, there is a lot of walking at this resort. I wish things were closer to my room. I didn't like the market they set up, the vendors were extremely pushy. Luckily my cons weren't many!!! Don't forget to pack-bug spray for the mosquitoes, swim shoes, a tube for the pool, goggles for the kids and aloe for your sunburn. Dreams Cancun gives out rafts I don't know why they don't do this at Tulum. Also I know it is an all inclusive resort but don't be stingy and tip the staff who does a great job. They will appreciate it!!! Overall it is a nice resort with extremely friendly staff. We had a great time with the family. We are glad we came but we probably wouldn't come back here with so many resorts around I would love to try somewhere where we haven't been.

We were quite happy with everything but the spa. Food was good with a wide variety, gluten free options were available. Amenities were sufficient. Entertainment was good to excellent. Staff was quite proficient in English. The spa was quite disappointing. Appointment time was wrong twice over, no hot water for the shower, and Banda music was playing over the sound system, not relaxing spa music.

Im going to start with the positives because even though my experience was mainly bad there are a few highlights The hotel and settings are beautiful, the grounds and surroundings are picturesque Most of the staff are lovely and helpful ( excluding management and concierge) especially Louis the pool bartender and the staff at the lobby bar The room are nice (mostly) and the iPad in room to order room service through and maintenance issues is a nice touch Now the issues which outweigh any positives to this hotel The food is absolutely awful! No flavour no taste, not a lot of choice. The buffet was absolutely awful. As someone who loves to try food it was all so bland, there wasnt even a simple choice of fries, nuggets etc. Spending excess money on formal wear for the formal restaurants was a waste of my money as whilst sat in the Italian men where being allowed in in shorts and women in sarongs and flip flops. Entertainment is awful aswell, website doesnt state that the hotel is very Spanish/Mexican orientated. Me and my partner went to bed most nights and missed the entertainment as they didnt cater to English speaking guests whatsoever. Adult only pool absolute lies kids screaming running around jumping in and out the pool disturbing everyone. No staff about to manage this issue. Main pool excessively loud, hotel says it caters to couples and families I found the hotel catered to young groups of people who wanted to party which is totally fine but not the stay I was looking for or expected from the hotel website. All drinks watered down and tasted awful. I respect the no plastic straw rule but give us alternatives maybe paper straws because how are you supposed to drink iced cocktails without one?. Also on this issue Spanish/Mexican guests catered to and provided straws when asked for, me and my partner asked for a straw we got told quite rudely NO First room we stayed in was nice untill about half way through the holiday we noticed at least 5 cockroaches crawling everywhere. To be fair to hotel they quickly moved us to a higher floor room which was more adequate and spotlessly clean. As a Thomas cook customer our holiday was thrown into turmoil with the announcement of the company going bust. We did not once receive any communication from the hotel in regards to this matter or put our mind at ease untill someone shoved an angry letter underneath our door demanding we contact the company in charge of getting us home and paying our holiday ourselves or not being able to leave untill we pay the full amount. I was disgusted by this behaviour, no communication, no manager asking to talk to us face to face just an abusive letter pushed under the door not even hand delivered. As we are atol protected we had our certificate, a bit more communication on their behalf could have saved us from the added stress they caused to the remainder of our holiday. No apology or manager ever came to see us. All in all I would advise anyone English speaking not fluent in Spanish to avoid this hotel. The food and entertainment were absolutely awful and its such a shame how lovely the hotel was to look at.

Fabulous food. Great staff and beautiful grounds. The World Cafe is the best for any meal. The Italian restaurant was really good and all wait staff was attentive and eager to please. Safety needs to be addressed in the rooms as floor can get slippery especially in shower where no grab bars exist.
