Visited Dona Sylvia in Cavelossim in early March for a short break. Far too short it turned out. Our chalet was located not too far from the main reception/bars/restaurant & pool. It was modern inside, clean & comfortable. The staff were always extremely polite & pleasant & more than happy to assist or help in anyway. A 5 minute walk through the hotel grounds found us on the beach with a plethora of beach bars to choose from, or a 20 minute walk further down the beach towards the Leela or Holiday Inn resorts on Mobor beach to Sam's Beach Shack; well worth a visit. All in all our experience cemented the desire to go back again for a much longer stay.

Ok like every end of term report Ill start with the positives. The location is superb, beautiful clean beach, room was great and all the staff were fantastic, nothing was too much trouble, friendly and welcoming and great sense of humour. HOWEVER....clearly Accor Hotels (single largest hospitality company in Europe) have decided to go down the corporate route. I feel that their long term vision maximise operational performance and create value for money for everyone of the companys stakeholders is going to be at the expense of the local community and the traveller/tourist. I would highly recommend the location but would advise you to stay elsewhere unless you particularly enjoy 500+ attendees at corporate conferences, laser shows and noise. BTW Silver Sands Beach Shack is oases of calm.

    • Hotel with identity problem

      Reviewed 22 March 2020

This is a review of two halves. A full 5* for the quality of this hotel, accomodation, gardens, cleanliness, excellent Executive Chef always offering a superb choice and quality of food, the bars, beach access, beach management, beach shacks, Seagull Restauranr staff and especially Rawul, Elston and David in the restaurant for their superb service and friendship. And not forgetting Karen, the superb and highly knowledgeable Tui Rep. BUT Clearly this hotel, now owned by the Radisson group and marketed under the Novotel brand, is now more concerned with marketing itself as a venue for business conferences, business meetings, and large 3 day Indian weddings ..... at the expense of it being a relaxing holiday environment. The weddings weren't a problem, it was wonderful to see such a different and colourful cultural event. But the business side and corporate side are incompatible with a holiday environment. Echoing other comments here already onTripAdvisor the 3 day 500+ delegate conference by the Himalayan Pharmaceutical company was a complete intrusion into the accomodation and holiday. The pool area was like Euston station in rush hour during both registration and de-registration, the delegates take over and behaviour around the pool area at the end of the day was totally unacceptable, and the sound and light stage erected on the hotel lawns for their evening entertainment wouldn't have looked out of place at Glastonbury. Thank goodness the discos etc finished at 10.30pm. From conversation with Karen, Tui rep, Tui will not be returning to this hotel in 2021 - apparently not wanted by the Novatel group any more. That's a pity. This is a Superb hotel, but no longer a holiday retreat. Novotel have made their decision. So sadly only 3***. We will return to Goa, but clearly not to this hotel.

    • A Little Piece Of Paradise

      Reviewed 21 March 2020

I really cannot fault the hotel based on my experience. All the staff were more helpful and welcoming which made my 10 day stay excellent. My visit to the hotel was during the Covid-19 outbreak which meant that guest numbers fell dramatically in the second week due to the Indian government closing the borders to all international travellers. The hotel decided to start essential maintenance to certain parts of the complex due to the lack of guests which resulted in an apartment move. Gita the hotel manager was great and organised this swiftly and even got an upgrade due to the inconvenience. My stay at the hotel was made extra special by the pool boy Teddylon, he could not have done anymore to make the stay extra special. All in all a great place to stay and would definitely return.
