Weve stayed at Don Diego two years in a row: October 2016 and 2017. We love this place, the food is great, the grounds are awesome, the staff is friendly, and the price is right. We live Tulum, we love Don Diego de la Selva and we will definitely be back.

    • Keep away from this hotel. Rude, disrespectful and arrogant owner!!!

Keep away from this hotel! The main door in our room, had many big gaps, which means the door couldnt close fully..! Room was full of mosquitoes! Its a basic need that a room can be fully closed, The owner was so disrespectful and rude, he was not at all professional. We tried to ask for a new room, because of cause we didnt want that, and Im pregnant so I truly dont want do sleep with mosquito spray on. The didnt had another room, so actually after 20 min check in, we wanted to check out because this was not acceptable at all! We asked for fully refund, because we didnt wanted to stay and didnt even stay for more than 20 min, but the owner almost laughed at us and told we shouldnt come to Mexico if we were afraid of mosquitos!!! He told us we could put our clothes to fill the gaps!!!!?? Is that a joke??? Over all he was rude, not at all understanding, disrespectful, arrogant and service minded. Will never NEVER recommend this hotel! Stay away!

We thouroughly enjoyed our stay. The small hotel made us feel like we were away from the city even though we were only a few blocks from downtown. Bathrooms were always clean functioning and private. Great morning coffee and breakfast with fresh mellon juice as a unique treat. Cute clean pool. With the Melipona Bee Sanctuary all added to our tranquil stay here. The small jungle feel of our double sliding glass door patio gave us a great private feel from our #4 room. Our hosts were extremely helpful and pleasant in every way. Whether you are traveling for buisness or pleasure we would strongly recomend this place.

    • Best choice I made

I had to travel to Tulum for a project on plastic pollution and I did not arrange any accommodation in advance. Once in Tulum, in my first meeting, I asked a local experienced man for a hotel with history, which gives back something to the local communities and is not just a foreign investor profiting from the local beaches and weather. This wise man talked about Don Diego de la Selva, and I must admit, it was one of the best choices I made! The hotel is increadibly cozy, clean and beautiful. It has all one wishes for him/herself when spending a few days in Tulum. It is central, it has a great swimming pool and a great cuisine! The rooms are spacious, beds are comfortable, it is silent at night and is walkable distance to restaurants, shops etc. The bus station is 5 mins walk (for all trips to Coba, Chichen Itza, etc.) beaches are just a 10 min ride by taxi. One of the things that I treasured the most about the hotel is its engagement with the local Mayan populations. The hotel hosts a foundation called "Abeja Melipona" which is reintroducing the local endangered bee specie, used and worshiped by the Mayas centuries back. The foundations is showing how to breed these bees to the local communities in the Jungle, as an additional source of income. The bees are harmless since they have NO STING (!) and produce delicious honey. Through this project I got a much closer impression of how local people live in these communities and it is a great contrast to the crazy-short-term pleasure you see otherwise. Great hosts, wonderful discussions in the evenings and superb team/service. Thanks for the wonderful experience!
