Well well well what a disappointment this place was! After seeing all the hype on the travel shows and reading about it in various magazines etc we thought this island was a bucket list place. When we arrived we did think.... wow thats a lot of cement on a small island and very in your face! Hardly a natural environment look. When we walked into the resort it was rather mind blowing as it is very modern and lovely.... however you dont feel like youre on an island, more like inside the Hilton in Sydney. Then we wondered what to do as we realised very quickly there wasnt a lot on offer! We walked the rainforest walk which was lovely at the top for its views. Then time for a swim.... so the pools arent heated and the spa is just a feature (not working). The beach is just awful, more like mud banks than the white soft sand we were expecting! Time for lunch... there was absolutely no one in the two main dining areas so therefore we assumed they werent operating. So we found Inkstone next to the pool. This is where the real nightmare began.... when we arrived there was only two other tables occupied (not busy at all). The lady told us she would be back in a few minutes to take our drink order..... that amounted to about 20 minutes and in this time other people were arriving. They were also having orders taken, while we were still waiting for our drinks order to be taken! It was as if we were invisible!! My partner had had enough and went to the bar to order to be told to be seated and our orders would be taken. More time passed and someone came over to take our order. We ordered food and drinks. Our meal was simple.... tacos and a bowl of chips!! We waited for what seemed like a lifetime. Then a male waiter came over with chips and a pork burger. We said no thats not ours. He said sorry and left. Then a little while later he appeared with THE SAME food and a female waiter and they told us it was our order. I explained we had the tacos and chips. He left the chips for my partner and left with the burger. I then said to the male with the food seriously the service is appalling he looked at me and laughed! I was horrified and at that moment we should have left. However we were starving and with the limited food options there we stayed. Finally he came out with the tacos. So my partner had eaten the chips and then I ate separately my tacos! I said again this is just shocking and he smiled at me. We finished our meals and still hadnt had our drinks delivered! Then finally they were delivered in glass bottles so I picked it up and left. My only regret is actually paying for the meal! And the dark skinned male waiter needs to be dismissed for his role or at very least spoken to by management. We couldnt read his name tag however he is pictured. He has no understanding of customer service what so ever. We ended up catching the next available boat and go the hell out of there! The date was 26/09/2019. The tacos were revolting too....just blobs of fat.

What a unpleasant holiday. It was an extremely expensive trip between airfares, ferry to get here, food and stay of 6 nights cost us close to 9k. Service was terrible (Please note not all the workers were rude) we found the ones hired from other countries were really nice and polite. Despite paying good money to be at the resort and on top of that everything was extremely expensive. For a burger with no hot chips or drink cost $25 on its own and you had to put your own topping. The bar areas the tables were always dirty. To put the kids in the kids club it's an extra $50. To use the spa which is amongst all the pools was am extra cost..all sports activities were from $90 plus per head. To take a trip to Arile beach it's $37 each way each person. Bottle of water is $5. Worst thing was the weather was bad raining and high winds. We couldn't go anywhere to pass time. We came here to sit by the pool, sumbake and drink cocktails. But because the weather was bad we ended up in our room most days. To buy two drinks it cost $40. Which we did anyway otherwise we would of gone out of our mind. Work hard all year to save for a trip and you get sucked in by the beauty of the island. This place has a lot of potential but unfortunately the operation and management of it is extremely poor. Never again and I highly don't recommend anyone to come here.

    • The chaos started before we had even arrived...

We booked our holiday at Daydream Island in November 2018 (for our stay in September 2019) when they had an opening special. We figured by September they would have been open for six months and any kinks would be well and truly ironed out. How wrong we were... I had arranged the holiday for five families. It was to be our annual vacation and a chance to get away with our small children. The marketing material promised the perfect balance - kids club and lots of activities for our pre-schoolers babysitters and amazing dining experiences and endless cocktails for the parents. We emailed DD five weeks prior to our departure to lock in babysitters and dinner reservations. With a large group we didn't want to leave it until we arrived as we required three babysitters. Despite numerous phonecalls and emails it took until two days prior to our booking for someone to come back to us and explain that not one babysitter would be available during our stay. This meant that we then had seven nights where we would have to take our kids to dinner and then sit in the hotel room from 7:30pm in the dark while they slept. We couldn't understand why after so much notice they were unable to secure babysitting. When we arrived we were actually informed that there is only one babysitter on the Island. This is despite DD marketing itself as a "family resort". We had booked two interconnecting rooms. We arrived and I opened the joint door. There were people smoking in the adjoining room. I rang reception. I was told there are "no guarantees" that interconnecting bookings will actually result in rooms which are together. I explained that my three-year old and nine month old were a little young to be "just down the hall". The Guest Services Manager hung up on me. This was eventually sorted out after one of the resort managers intervened. There is no room service. This is incredibly inconvenient with small children and compounded by the fact that there are no babysitters meaning that you have to take your children to eat at the two available restaurants. Inkstone has a very limited menu with essentially nothing healthy available. We never saw the higher-end restaurant as children are not welcome. Graze is a buffet restaurant and at $90 a head trying to wrangle five pre-schoolers resulted in six bites of food and a total waste of money. In the end we resorted to feeding the kids on the grass by the pool and the adults ate food from the mini-bar. There are no snacks available. Fill a suitcase with food unless you want to shop at the overpriced and understocked resort gift shop. The pool is not heated. The spa is "out of order" and according to staff there is no plan to fix it. We managed to get our children into Kids Club on one of the afternoons. We dropped them off to be told that they would be "watching a movie". Every time we went to go to the underwater aquarium which is so hyped up in the marketing material it was closed for private functions. There is literally nothing for kids that are the age of ours to do. Once you have exhausted the pool it is very slim pickings in terms of entertainment. There is no playground and the beach is made of coral which is unsuitable for younger children. There were of course some positive elements to the trip. The staff that are not working on reception are really lovely and seem to share a number of the guests frustrations. The BBQ available by the pool at lunch was nice though the ordering system was complete chaos. The foyer area is beautiful and the living reef talk was a great. We ended up cutting our trip short and heading to Hamilton Island for four nights. We met a number of families in the same situation. Daydream Island Management: you have a really, really long way to go. If I thought you would respond to my emails or phonecalls I would probably ask for my money back. My advice: head to Hamilton Island or Airlie Beach.

Guys at the beach sports club are fantastic - we did a hike on nearby south molle island and it was sensational. Lots of activities to do - most of the good ones cost extra so be prepared for extra spend when you arrive

We have never encountered customer service this poor. Carl at the activity booking desk must be volunteering to be at Day Dream as his attitude reflected that he was being held against his will. Very un-helpful and had no understanding of any activities on offer. The managment at Inkstone have no standards and show no understanding for customer service. This attitude is directly reflected in their staff. The cleaning/grounds keeping staff are by far the friendliest members on the island, the rest of the staff could do with learning from them. Would not reccomend a visit.
