Reminds me of the grand old hotels of the prewar era. Great service and helpful staff. Right next to a metro station so travel with Budapests excellent public transport very easy. Situated in the heart of Budapest. Had a fabulous 3 nights there.

    • Bad experience in an over-rated hotel

Extremely disappointed by this hotel. It was well rated and given 4 starts, online images looked very good, but the experience first hand was extremely bad, Dirty and 'tired' exterior. Although the building has some excellent historical features the lobby needs attention. Common areas, corridors, lifts etc, dirty and in poor repair and corridors had very dirty carpets with many food stains and a bad smell. As for the room - shocking. Dirty, peeling and damaged wallpaper, very old bathroom fittings which were also dirty and had seen much better days. The bed was also bad, and in need of a new mattress. Furniture in the room was very old showing lots of wear and damage. Although we were offered a room upgrade - this was a very small room with a lot of noise from the street and bad odours again. We were obliged to check out and not stay in this hotel losing our non-refundable charge. On reflection small price to pay. We do not recommend this hotel and will not return. Overall I fail to see how this hotel rates so highly. This should not be a 4 start rating.

Late in the evening we arrived at one of the most beautiful historic buildings in Budapest - the Danubius Hotel. We were greeted by a very nice young man who welcomed us and gave us a map and all relevant information. The hotel is ideally sited with a Metro just outside the door and walking distance of the city centre where you can get one of the various tour buses which can take you to the Buda side of the city. We had a wonderful stay but personally I would have appreciated a kettle and teabags/coffee in the room. Personally I would have appreciated a kettle and tea bags in the room.

We chose this hotel due to its history during WW2. Such fabulous decor and we were greatly surprised and thankful we were upgraded to one of their suites. It's location is absolutely perfect. Would recommend to everyone.

    • Good location but rooms need a face lift

The hotel lobby gives you a great first impression. However, our room was old and dated and in serious need of a redo. There was mold on the bathroom mirror edge as well as between the tiles. Wall paper was torn, paint chipped and blistering, and the lighting in the bathroom is terrible (light around mirror either did not work or bulb burnt out). It did look like they were working on some of the rooms but we were not lucky enough to get one of the completed rooms.
