    • Very Pretty Hotel Near Airport

      Reviewed 15 September 2019

I recently spent one night at the Marriott Hacienda Belen. I was impressed with how elegant it appeared--faux Spanish colonial style that still made it look elegant and classy. The rooms have clearly been recently remodeled and have nice, high ceilings and excellent air conditioning (essential as far as I'm concerned.) Beds aren't that comfortable though in my opinion--not as good as Hilton brand. Everything is very, very clean in the rooms and throughout the hotel which is also very important. The one main thing that really annoyed me is that they don't provide any bottles of water in the room (for free) so I had to use a bottle from the mini-bar area for $3.50 which is a rip-off. I know they say that the water here is drinkable thanks. A hotel of this caliber shouldn't be so cheap as to not give at least one free bottle of water. Oh well, fairly minor issue I suppose. The other aspects I loved were the beautiful grounds the hotel is located on--I went for a walk around its trail--it almost seems like a "mini resort". The views and trees, flowers, etc, are lovely. Also, the fact that there's a free shuttle to/from the airport is GREAT. Breakfast at Hacienda Kitchen, while it had a friendly waitress, was very subpar (gross "maple syrup" that definitely didn't taste anything like maple syrup) and too expensive considering what you get. All in all a good choice especially if you get a good rate like I did. I would recommend the hotel and would come back--but there's room for improvement.

My fiance and I had such a delightful and beautiful evening yesterday at the Kitchen restaurant (downstairs), food was amazingly delicious. Beef well done, hard to find in Costa Rica; and my seafood was perfect; well done octopus and scallops. Perfect get away after a long week of work, you will love it! Terrace has such a beautiful view, fresh and cozy.

We came to Costa Rica over 8 time zones so we figured a nice place to sleep before and after a 12+ hour flight. Upon arrival after picking up our auto rental, Roy, the on duty bellman was Johnny on the spot to help us with our luggage as well as parking our car in a safe spot. At check-in, we were given the Platinum treatment because of our membership card. We were treated like royalty as well as many perks. Roy got our luggage up to a gorgeous room overlooking the mountains and the pool. It was beautiful! A perfect way to start our adventure in Costa Rica! Going back home three weeks later was different. We were well received again, however, our Platinum status didnt show up! This meant we had to pay extra for an upgraded room, 120usd each for breakfast alone as well as other expenses we had not planned. In fact, we booked a cozy hideout on the pacific coast that we wanted to opt on. That included meals and wheels and other perks. Since the Marriott had a generous cancellation policy, we initially thought we can take a choice within both hotels , tho the former policy was much tighter. We initially planned taking the pacific one but certain events beyond our control forced us to make a last minute change. We decided to go for the Marriott since the perks were above and beyond what we had expected. Unfortunately, it was too late to get a refund at the pacific hotel since we were three days late in that. Upon arrival at the Marriott for our three day stay before flying 12 hours, we were told our Platinum status wasnt showing up and they were forced to give us the minimal of perks we were expecting. Had we known this, wed had driven to the coast to the other hotel. Oh well! It wound up costing us another 500-700 US$s for our mistake. Despite the foul up, we still enjoyed staying there and additionally, the staff were extremely nice to us. We would give 5stars, but due to their small mistake, we gave them 4. Much appreciation to the staff there, especially Roy. Well never forget his friendliness and knowledge he shared with us! Thank you and thank you BiGTiMe!! Roy! Incidentally, the property itself is not only historic, but totally an immersive beauty inside and outside!

Only stayed here the first night of the vacation but it was a good start. Our Costa Rica tour started here so it was a wonderful hotel for relaxing after a long travel day. Good food, then a good night's sleep and we were off on a whirlwind tour of CR. The room, grounds, pool, etc. were very nice and the staff was very friendly and helpful.

    • Nice hotel

Stayed here for one night with a tour group. Lovely hotel and grounds. Only problem was rooms have 2 full size beds (doubles) or 1 king. We had 3 tall adults and had requested a king and rollaway. Tour group said that wasn't possible. When we arrived and saw the small beds, we asked again for king and rollaway bed which the hotel accommodated. Rooms and beds were very nice. Rollaway was comfortable for a rollaway. Rooms did have tile floors and heavy wooden doors which allowed for some noise from others in the halls. Luckily the hotel was not very busy when we were there but I imagine it would be far noisier during busier seasons. Main restaurant service and food was very good. Did not use spa or other facilities but they looked very nice.
