    • A Reliable Hotel, if a Bit Dated

      Reviewed 22 August 2019

When it first opened, the Costa Mesa Marriott was a Marriott Suites hotel, which positioned it in the genre of Embassy Suites and similar type properties. That's where it belongs. Some reviewers have commented that it is not up to the standards of a Marriott, and in that sense, I would say that it isn't comparable to a downtown Marriott or JW Marriott property, but rather, to an all-suites hotel. If you come with that expectation, you will get what you expect. The standard room has a bedroom with a small balcony, tiny chest of drawers, small closet and a TV; a separate sitting room with desk and sink/microwave (with doors to the bedroom that you can close, but very thin curtains that won't block out light); and a bathroom with combo tub/shower. Things are a bit dated, so a refresh would be in order. The common areas in the lobby have been refreshed in recent years, so rooms may (should) be next. The gym is reasonably equipped, with equipment that is in good shape. Laundry room is only adequate, and at $3 per wash and another $3 per dry, it's expensive. Ditto for the room rates, which were initially set in the $100-$120 range (though that was a couple decades ago), but now routinely are in the $250 range, with parking adding another $27. That's expensive, but what else is new? It's still one of our usual haunts when on the West Coast.

    • Thank you John!

      Reviewed 21 August 2019

John is a senior hotel staff member at this hotel. He was friendly and welcoming from the beginning of our trip until the end of our stay. Most of other staff members were also friendly and nice. The hotel is great and very convenient at all levels. The rooms are spacious. Just the house keeping staff require some more attention since sometimes they don't change the sheets. Otherwise, this is a great hotel. We enjoyed our stay there.

    • What a old dump!!

      Reviewed 14 August 2019

Not a Marriott! Worst then a 1 star no tell motel. Poorly managed, poorly staffed, nothing works correctly, old beat up poorly maintained old dump. What a scam! You are expecting a Marriott and you don't get anything that looks like a marriot. What a rip off joint.

    • Julie Im the restaurant rocks

      Reviewed 31 July 2019

I come to Costa Mesa and Orange County a lot on business, but Ive never stayed at the Costa Mesa Marriott. Until tonight. Not sure how my room is going to be yet, but Julie was so nice, she was a real person, a real connection and a real caring spirit. You dont get that a lot at hotels, they see so many people one time so its a natural thing. The fact that she took time to connect, and to show that she cared made her special to me and my experience at the Marriott Costa Mesa. I dont know if my room will compare, but the world needs more people like Julie. #giveherabonus

    • People make the difference

      Reviewed 26 July 2019

The location is great (for me). I booked a room with a "balcony" because I tend to spend a fair bit of time in the room working between appointments. The balcony, however, is only large enough to step out and get some fresh air (no way to sit on the balcony and read, for example). Disappointing. This Marriot still has the old style desk and chairs; meaning that the desk work surface is relatively high compared to the maximum height of the "work chair". For me, these poor ergonomics mean that I can only work on my laptop for about 30 minutes before needing to shake out my hands/arms so they don't "fall asleep". The only way to overcome this was to put blankets and towels on the chair. Not classy, but functional. HOWEVER... This hotel is a GREAT example of how the STAFF can overcome the limitations of the property. Specifically, I'd like to mention Marie in the lobby bar. Fantastic service. During my conversations with her, she mentioned that she's been working there for 17 years. Impressive! Thus, while the ergonomics of the desk are average (at best), Marie and the others at this hotel are enough to bring me back.
