This hotel feels and looks like its past its heyday (maybe in the 1950s). It has decorations and finishings like an old school hotel from a past era and some of the furniture look it too. It hasnt a lift so be aware if you have heavy luggage. The surroundings were quiet and few shops were open, although I guess it is because we arrived on a Sunday. It is a good location from which to visit the wineries in Tamar valley which our main reason for a stop in Launceston on our way to tour the east coast of Tasmania. The staff were friendly and provided good recommendations for restaurants a short walk away open on a Sunday for dinner. A pleasant stay overall

Two night stay in June Free off street parking. Beautiful old building, handy location to main shopping area. Friendly and efficient reception, providing maps and info.regarding restaurants etc. Old building, consequently no elevator, missed this point when booking. Room 38 overlooking busy street, however, no traffic noise due to double glazing on windows. We had booked a refurbished deluxe room, which was on 2nd floor. This would be a real issue for individuals with limited mobility. Choose room on ground floor, if mobility is a concern. Room with very comfortable king size bed, flat screen TV, two lounge chairs. Warmed by air conditioner. Desk and chair, free no fuss WIFI, comfortable! Bathroom a decent size with complimentary toiletries . * Beware of the shower head - European style with flexible hose. Housekeeping had possibly and inadvertently left the head facing up towards the door - oops! Quality towels and bathrobes - good and hot water pressure. Breakfast, on day one - usually a hotel buffet style - but because there were only four guests- breakfasts were individually cooked. Breakfast on day two, a different story. Apparently a few more guests, Bain Maries being used - but - at 8am, maybe the other guests had left there was scarcely any food left - needless to say we were able to find some leftovers. Staff encountered during our stay friendly and helpful. In summary we were disappointed with our stay, and certainly would not return or recommend. # Hotel has a restaurant Larceny - which gains mixed reviews. We dined there due to convenience and wished that we hadnt. See seperate review. Appropriately named ! And NOT recommended. .

    • A little Disappointing this time around

We have stayed here multiple times over the past 10 years and in the past have always thoroughly enjoyed our experience. This time no so.. absence of door swipe or even handle was off putting on arrival and lessened security. No room service of restaurant on Sat night (not on website) and Austar and Foxtel no longer available (not on website). Our bed mattress was in need of replacement as was sagging on one side. Cleanliness was faultless. Reception guy - ditherer and did not go out of the way to be accommodating. We dined Friday night and food was very good (not as good as previously though) the waitress was very warm and accommodating. Apparently the complex has been sold and is to be refurbished - in the interim they have certainly let things slide which is extremely disappointing given our past outstanding experiences at City Park Grand and before that The Prince Albert. We wont be rushing back short term.

The room was clean, but the bed was very uncomfortable including the pillows. At breakfast the lady serving had the flu, and continued serving while blowing her nose and coughing near the kitchen and food. This was very not very hygienic, especially while cooking toast for guests.
