      Such a shame for us to end our lovely day and private spa session on a bad note. The spa is beautiful, the service is great and you can really sit back and enjoy a relaxing afternoon. We had booked a package with private spa and dinner for my partners birthday. The restaurant had a charming atmosphere but we felt it was a shame that our first waitress could not speak French, we hardly managed to order sparkling water. Our second waiter smelled very strongly of cigarettes which was not the most pleasant touch after a spa afternoon. We had a set menu, there were 4 waiters for 10 clients but we still managed to finish our bottle of wine before being served our mains. After an hour and a half of waiting, we asked the waiter when our mains would arrive and he then realized he forgot to fire them.. we were his only table to tend for the whole evening and then he told us it wasnt his fault but his colleagues (the young woman from the start who couldnt speak French). Food was ok although I had to send my cold and overcooked fries back and wait for a new batch to be made but the service was so bad we couldnt enjoy our dinner fully. Such a shame for us as we wanted this day to be special, we loved the spa but left disappointed.

      I recently returned home to the heat of the Middle East from a great family break in Chalet RoyAlp in Villars. I have an 11, 9 and 4 year old who all had a brilliant time. There were a huge amount of activities for all the family, the staff were really good and we had a hugely enjoyable time.

      There is a lot that is good about this hotel. The food is first rate and the staff in the restaurants really seemed to want to help and make life as easy as possible. The Michelin star restaurant was outstanding. The spa is excellent and well appointed. The proximity to the railway makes access to the mountains and to Villars easy.. But I have to agree with the reviewers comments about front desk. Rarely have we experienced a more perverse reception. We had to fight very hard to get the room we had booked, with a panoramic view. And we could not understand the parking charge for which we could find no reference. And why oh why are the garden and sitting area not more attractive for summer visitors

      We had an overall wonderful experience at this hotel. We booked one of the residences with two bedrooms, kitchen, and living room. We had gorgeous views from both the bedrooms and the living room decks. We were indeed there during the weekend of the graduation celebrations of a couple of the boarding schools coinciding with the 70 year celebration for Aiglon College. The shuttle service was quite busy with all of the requests for drop offs and pick ups from those going to events. Parking in town is just about non-existent. It was a little slower getting places than it might have been under normal circumstances, however they did a fantastic job juggling the situation. I did have one longer than acceptable wait, but otherwise, it was great. The front desk got reservations for us, an emergency dental appointment, and had wonderful suggestions for us on shopping and restaurants. There was a record breaking heat wave during our stay, and, like almost all hotels in Switzerland, there is no air conditioning because they almost never need it. It was indeed hot! They provided us with a nice fan and we did leave the doors open. The graduating student celebration at the entrance did go until about midnight or a short time after, but we didn't notice anything later than that. We were in the residence section, 22D, and so had a quiet experience. My husband, son, and I had spa treatments, (massage, body scrub, and facial) and everything was professional an with exceptional facility and services. We found Chalet Royalp extremely comfortable, spacious, relaxing, and we would stay there again were we in the area. One suggestion. The lounge chairs on the living room deck are a disaster! We took a video of me laying back in one and sliding right off toward the foot of it. There is no way to stay on those chairs. I really should post the video. All my friends have watched it over and over, laughing. Sorry guys, those chairs have to be replaced or guests need to be given sticky pads to keep them from sliding off!

    • Disgraceful Service, Noisy, Dismissive Staff, Flawed Design

      This hotel FAILS in summertime. When its warm rooms facing the mountain (back) are located over the arrivals courtyard. The courtyard creates a loud echo of all sounds. Worse still, our so called "junior suite" is nearly above the entrance. Even with the windows closed you get much automotive noise. If you open the windows, as we needed too as its warm, you have every noise imaginable. For this reason alone, as they have NO AIR CONDITIONING, you are presented with a fatal design mistake. I brought the foregoing to the kind attention of the front desk, stated our unhappiness, and asked to pull up our departure by one day. I was rudely and roundly dismissed. In a firm manner I was told I will pay full price regardless. Then for the "coup de grce" the front desk agent told me I could upgrade to another "junior suite" for a discounted 100 CHF per night. THIS IS BEYOND INSULTING AS (1) WE HAVE AN OBJECTIVE ISSUE AND (2) ARE ALREADY PAYING 800-900 CHF A NIGHT. I have spent 3000 nights in hotels and this if first time I have ever had such shocking, dismissive, mean, inconsiderate and absurd treatment in my life. Worse still is the non existent service. Around 3pm in bar the we asked for 2 drinks and 2 club sandwiches. The club sandwich was served on bread that was rock hard and tasted like paper. The drinks took 15 minutes to be served. The sandwich even longer. They brought out 1 but not 2 of the accompanying french fries. All this for about $100 USD. 1 star quality and 5 star prices. Breakfast is another joke. I ordered an omelette. IT NEVER ARRIVED. Staff took our half filled drinks away yet failed the bus our empty plates. The service is completely broken. Many of the items on the buffet were not tasty and the whole thing is quite average. On our second morning nobody was at the door to seat us, nobody came to our table after we seated ourselves and we actually had to go looking for staff to get a coffee. Nobody, ever came to our table during the first 10 minutes we were there. Not 5 star, not acceptable. Our stay coincided with graduation events at the nearby Beau Soleil school. The hotel was overrun by students who made a tremendous amount of noise until 3-4am. I brought this to the kind attention of the front desk as well. The lengthy and firm explanation offered is best summarized as "its my fault" and "caveat emptor". When I asked the front desk for the general manager's business card they could not provide it. Charging to park on the property is ridiculous given the extremely high room rates and very rural location. I finally spoke with Mr. Marti the general manager. He understood my perspective. The consideration I was given for my troubles was being allowed to leave one day ahead of schedule without paying an 800+CHF penalty. Presently, this hotel lacks any sense of accountability and a commitment to service. Perhaps guests have a better experience in winter. In any event, my partner and I felt abused.
