    • The. Best. Hostel. Ever.

      Reviewed 20 May 2019

If I could write a novel based on the best hostel ever, this would be it. It promotes both positivity and community or seclusion and privacy. No bunk beds, pods! Each unit has their own light switches, fan, plug outlets and a curtain for privacy. Bathroom, kitchen, communal space.. all was clean and perfect.. also, best bed I've ever slept on at a hostel.. and the staff.. they're amazing. I spent most of my time speaking with Melissa and she was so great! She took the time to introduce me to the hostel, gave me a rundown on the area and ensured I was happy and comfortable. As for location, I think it's great! Right near a bus stop into town and the area is safe. With less than a $5 uber to get anywhere from Capital, why stay anywhere else? I'm so pleased I stumbled on Capital and will surely be back. Thank you Melissa and the rest of the Capital staff! Pura Vida!

    • Clean hostel, but noisy staff and noisy guests. Impossible to get some rest.

      Reviewed 15 February 2019

The good: The hostel is clean and modern. The garden is nice. The bad: We never had a good night sleep and couldn't get any rest during the day either. The reception opens very early and closes at 11 pm. Every day we were woken up around 6:30 am by the staff talking loudly at the reception. We were staying in the room with shared bathroom and we heard everything. We were sorry for the people who stayed in dorms that are closer to the reception and have no doors! During the day when the staff was cleaning the hostel they were shouting at each other too. In 'Rooms with shared bathroom' the shared bathroom is between the two rooms. When we entered the bathroom we had to the lock the door to the next room so the other guests couldn't enter. This system is complicated and locking and unlocking is very noisy, mainly in the night. We were woken up several times in the middle of the night by guests from the other room locking and unlocking the bathroom, splashing the toilet and talking loudly in the bathroom. Night time quiet hours are not respected. Both the staff and some guests are loud at 11 pm. Once we had to ask the night guard to tell the other guests to be quiet when they were shouting in their room at 11:30 pm. He went there, but they kept on arguing until midnight then. Cars parked right in front of the window of our room. The cleaning lady was annoying. During the breakfast and all the day she was watching all guests. We had a "Big brother" feeling. The worst thing about her was when she was watching us washing the dishes saying that we were not washing them properly and we should use more soap! Once she said this to me and the next day she said the same thing to my mother. There is no hot water in the sink, so the dishes won't be washed properly anyway. This was just a very rude comment that the staff should avoid.

Spotlessly clean. Friendly, helpful staff. Quiet facilities, quiet street, yet easily accessible driving or walking. Delicious, substantial breakfast. Cool vibes. What more could you want in a hostel! 5 stars.

    • Great hostel!!

      Reviewed 01 August 2018

A fantastic hostel with great staff! They helped us with everything when our backpacks with passports, creditcard and money was stolen outside the city. They hired cabs, borrowed us money and gave us the oppurtunity to sleep in the dorm and pay afterwards! Besides that, the hostel was very clean, breakfast was very good and the rooms/beds were very good! The location of the hostel is accessible and near the football stadium, park and the city centre. Although, our stuff was stolen, we still enjoyed staying at the hostel! I can recommend Capital Hostel de Ciudad to everyone who is going to visit San Jos!! Melissa & Mercedes, thank you very much!! Regards, the Dutch guys!
