    • A brief stay in a well appointed and situated B&B, great for a short visit to the Highlands.

The breakfast was ample and very tasty (including homemade jams). The twin room was decorated well, and very comfortable. We especially appreciated the sherry and chocolates, and the view of the lake from the window. As folks have noted, Janice is a character - prickly on the outside, but extremely caring on the inside. I felt ill during our stay and Janice arranged an appointment with the local surgery (doctor's office) in a jiffy. We had lovely conversations about how Janice and her husband came to operate the B&B, and about the Harrods Christmas bears. And she had valuable suggestions as to what we could do on our too short stay. Yes, you'll be asked for your breakfast order when you arrive - just be prepared - if you have questions, ask them. And yes, sometimes Janice's manner is brusque. However, she truly cares about her guests' comfort, and she has created a very lovely B&B.

Im in the minority and theres nothing really wrong with Burnbrae but it wasnt for me. I'm afraid. The rooms were very 90s style (do any guests need CD and DVD players these days?) and there was a lingering odour of cigarette smoke. I found Janice formidable and she has a very dry sense of humour (eg calling me a cowardy custard for not eating the black pudding!). Breakfast is taken at a single table shared with the other guests. On the plus side the rooms are spotless and I slept very well. Theres a very nice pub literally next door which I'll probably try to stay at next time Im up this way. We had a strange mix-up at check-out. Payment is cash only. (Note: the post office down the road is open only 10am-4pm and the ATM in the pub next door charges 1.75 per withdrawal). I checked my booking.com confirmation which stated that I'd paid online when I booked the night before. Janice acknowledged that and, after speaking to booking.com, accepted my original payment even though, she said, the website doesn't have her bank details. I was grateful shed taken responsibility for the issue.

This was a strange experience - lots of lovely touches, but also some things which means we won't be going again. We rang the night before our arrival to let them know it would be at least 6pm before we arrived. When we did get there just before 7pm, the door was answered with the comment 'Well, this is a funny 6 o'clock.' Not exactly the welcome you expect. Before going to our room we had to order our breakfast for the day after. The room was large with plenty of space and a small settee and coffee table. There was a glass jar of chocolates, sherry and the usual tea/coffee etc. Lovely touches. Unfortunately, there was also a lingering smell of stale cigarette smoke - particularly on the tissues. Breakfast had plenty of choice - 7 different cereals, lots of fruit, etc. Cooked breakfast was good, but we got comments on how much we had eaten and what was left. Janice also spent a lot of time in the room with us, so it felt a bit like we were being watched whilst we ate. Cash only at this establishment - which was in very small letters on our booking reference. We booked through booking.com. Good job we had enough. A strange experience overall with so many plus points, but ultimately cancelled out by the negatives.

I stayed two nights with my husband at Burnbrae, and found everything to be fantastic. The location is to-die-for, the room is traditionally decorated and immaculately clean, Janice looks after you really well and the breakfast was absolutely delicious. We can't wait to come back.

Had a really nice weekend staying here. Stayed for two nights and the room was lovely, it was spacious and the bed was extremely comfortable. Janice made sure that we felt welcome and made sure to go out of her way to make our stay better. We had the full Scottish breakfast and the eggs and salmon and both were very good, there was a good selection of cereals, fruits, jams and spreads for toast too. In the room there was a good selection of DVDs and CDs to watch and listen to. We did notice the smell of smoke that people have mentioned however it was not nearly as bad as has been said on some reviews, it was faint and not there often. The view from the window was amazing, and the room was equipped with an effective heater to combat any cold. The room was equipped with coffee, hot chocolate and a selection of teas as well as lovely biscuits. There was a lovely pub next door which Janice had booked us into for dinner in case we hadn't eaten which was a lovely surprise! Would definitely recommend to anyone visiting Arrochar and will definitely be back if we return to the area.
