    • Meh, wasnt impressed

We stayed here one night during Labor Day weekend. Our room was located right next to the street and our view was of the walkway between the rooms and the pool. We booked in March and expected something a little better. The room was extremely dated with 70s decor and no USB outlets for our electronics. The shower had Luke warm water at 6:30 am on a Sunday. Breakfast was typical continental fanfare with powdered eggs and no low carb options. We purchased our fairy tickets to the island when we booked the room only to find that they were not running that schedule during our stay and had to purchase an upgrade. Staff was friendly and we did enjoy the pool and hot tub, We paid $300 for the night plus taxes and fees. For that price I would not stay here again.

    • You must call Expedia...

Booked ONE room for TWO nights through Travelocity. Had written confirmation as well. At check in, hotel had down TWO rooms for TWO nights and charged to our credit card. Never mentioned until I was handed TWO sets of room keys. After 45 minutes of absolutely no admission of error on their part and constantly telling us to call Expedia, who owns Travelocity, and a threat to call the police, I called the credit card company and filed a protest on the charges, called Travelocity who called the hotel and got the room charges corrected. When we got home, there was a message from the hotel, specifically the manager we spoke with, confirming our upcoming reservation for TWO rooms, TWO nights lodging. The time on our answering machine was 2:32 pm the day of our check-in. Interestingly, that was the exact time we were in the lobby arguing about this problem and waiting for the manager who was suppose to be calling Expedia. When she finally stepped out of her office, she said she did call Expedia who told her to just go ahead and charge us the extra fees. Right, and pigs really do fly! To top this all off, we were going to return to this hotel the upcoming Sunday for ONE night after visiting the U.P.. After putting our items in our room, we thought we better check on that reservation too and guess what, they had no record of that reservation! I used for that reservation which I also had written confirmation of and guess what I was told regarding this error? You must call Expedia. Thats when we went to City Hall and filed a complaint with their township, the police department, and they gave us the Tourist Association phone number, and suggested the BBB as well. I am also going to file a report with the Michigan Attorney General. DO NOT STAY AT ANY OF THE HOTEL CHAINS...the same crook owns them all. Stay at the mom/pop motels...not as fancy but clean and decent people who APPRECIATE your business.

    • When in Maciknaw, Stay Here

      Reviewed 06 September 2019

Relaxing stay in Maciknaw ,nice clean room, beautiful view from our lakefront room.Would definitely stay here again even though it was a little pricey compared to the same quality of room in Canada. Friendlier staff not only at this hotel but in pretty much the whole town would be nice.

    • 60th Anniversary Honeymoon

      Reviewed 05 September 2019

I would've given 5 stars, except for issue stated near the end of this review. My husband and I brought my parents for their 60th anniversary, since they honeymooned in Mackinaw City in 1959. We drove from South Carolina and picked them up in southern Ohio, so it was a very long drive, but it was a celebration, and we were so excited to take them to revisit their honeymoon destination. We reserved the room with 3 queen beds so we'd have plenty of space, and separate sleeping areas, but still all be in the same room. Our room was comfortable and clean. The office staff was friendly and helpful, especially by arranging our pick-ups by the Shepler Ferry and Trolley tour of the city. We also loved that there was always hot coffee available in the lobby. The breakfast area was huge and always had seating at clean tables available. The attendants there were friendly and did an excellent job of keeping all of the food fresh and areas clean. The only issue I had with our stay, and it was the first thing I noticed once we entered our room (208), was that we paid extra for a lakefront view but our room only had a lakefront view from the main room which had the two beds in it. The photos on the BW website clearly showed that the extra room of this suite had a lakefront view, too. However our extra room had a large window which looked out onto the central stairway with vending and ice machines. Since this trip was my gift to my parents on their anniversary, I didn't complain or ask to move because I didn't want to let them feel shortchanged or dissatisfied. But if they weren't along, I definitely would've gone to the desk and asked for a room that had the lakefront views I had reserved. Overall, we had an excellent experience, and I would stay here again, but I was disappointed by the misleading photos of our room posted on this BW website.

    • Had a great time

      Reviewed 05 September 2019

After walking out of Super 8 next door because that place was straight up gross, BW was a welcomed sight. Staff at the front desk were wonderful and very accomodating. Prices were a bit steep( $800 for two nights and that was AFTER they offered a discount), but it was last minute over Labor Day weekend. The free breakfast was a nice bonus. We stayed on the 4th floor facing the lake on day 1 and then moved to the 1st floor on the second day. First floor was great and the "patio" outside the sliding glass door was much bigger.
