    • YUM!!

Great doughnuts!! Our favorite was the vanilla glazed ... we got a box to try a bunch. Apple Fritter was yummy too. This place is TINY!! So don't plan to sit and eat them... unless you get there and happen upon one of the tables outside (which fortunately for us opened up once we had our doughnuts!)

Got a chocolate hazelnut old fashioned special. It wasn't super chocolatey, and it had lost most of the crispy edges that make old-fashioned doughnuts so amazing.

    • BEST DONUT (NATALIE was amazing!)

The Vault is a convenient 3- to 4-minute walk from the Merchandise Mart train stop. Visited twice on a Tuesday and a Wednesday. **Visit 1: Tuesday, arrived around 09:55 AM** They had run out of all other donuts except for the PINK LEMONADE (special of the day) and the chocolate donut holes. We did not have to fall in line, and got to enjoy our donut breakfast at the quaint and cozy al fresco dining area. I did not think I'd like the PINK LEMONADE DONUT so much, but it was really really good! Not too sweet and tasted like legit lemonade. Paired very well with their great cup of coffee. We told Natalie, the kind and hospitable lady at the counter, that we'd be back the following day to get a dozen more donuts, which we did. After having our donut fix, we resumed our brunch crawl, walking to the closest Al's Beef and Portillo's Hotdog. PINK LEMONADE DONUT was the clear winner of the crawl. **Visit 2: Wednesday, ETA 08:15 AM** No line again. Only our dozen donuts, which Natalie had so kindly packed for us, with my husband's and my initials on the box (which we thought was really sweet of her). Their "regular donuts" were bigger than the usual donut. They were all good, except that the PINK LEMONADE was still THE winning flavor for us. We ate at Au Cheval, Giordano's, Lou Malnati's, etc, during our trip, and we can say definitively that The Doughnut Vault is a definite must-try when in Chicago!

    • This is not a doughnut

I would like to preface this review by saying I've worked in multiple doughnut shops and I consider myself a doughnut tourist. While traveling I try as many doughnut shops as possible. That is just what I did this weekend in downtown Chicago. Doughnut vault was high on the list because of all the positive reviews. We lined up ten minutes before opening on a Sunday morning. We were about ten people back in the line. After opening the line moved quickly and soon we were waiting inside a little room; hence the vault name. The employee was exceptionally friendly and quick. the complete process from line starting to getting the doughnuts was under fifteen minutes. We bought three doughnuts, a glazed yeast, chocolate yeast, and a buttermilk old-fashioned. We always get this combo as a baseline for research purposes. The two yeast doughnuts were fried dark with a medium amount of glaze. the old-fashioned had a light fry and a medium glaze. The yeast doughnuts were different from any doughnut I've ever had. The best way I can explain the doughnuts is that they were like fried french bread and nothing like what I consider a doughnut. The old-fashioned was lightly crisp around the edges but had a sandy texture and very little flavor. I really enjoyed the shop and the experience but the doughnuts were terrible, with a crust, crumb and flavor that resembles an artisanal bread. This is not what I want in a doughnut.

I have nothing to say, this place has a few locations but this location has one rolling rack of doughnuts and when there gone they are gone. Doughnuts are around 3-4$. Get there early if you want to try any of the specials, the vanilla glaze is so heavenly its a sin. The flavor profiles are excellent, they dont do many flavors but what they do they do well. One of my favorites for doughnuts
