    • Fairy tale location and warm welcome

I couldn't recommend Johnby more highly. Anna and Henry are superb hosts and the building itself is fascinating - it was wonderful to hear details about its history and to have the interesting nooks and crannies pointed out. The room was comfortable, scrupulously clean, and there were plenty of lovely toiletries provided in the bathroom. Breakfast in the hall on the first floor - feasting on Johnby sausages whilst surrounded by portraits and heraldry - was a highlight. It's so nice to find a dog-friendly property, too. Would definitely stay again!

We stopped in Johnby Hall on the way to Scotland and very glad we did. A beautiful property ran by lovely people. The bed was the most comfy Ive slept in, breakfast amazing from their own sausages, bacon and jams. The breakfast room is something to behold, a 16th century hall, I felt like a king. Lovely dog walks in our own forest and red squirrels too!! We were made to feel very welcome, by the lovely Henry and a Anna (and Lucy their daughter). An absolute pleasure.

    • Could not be better.

Stayed in the lovely newish apartment. So spacious with every imaginable requirement from pots and pans to sticking plaster thoughtfully supplied. Their pork and sauasages are excellent A tour of the hall built round a peele tower rvealed what a burden an old property can be yet Anna and Henry seem to take it in their stride. and make it a pleasure for us fleeting visitors. Trying to decide when we can return for a longer stay.

I stopped off en route to Scotland for a night at Johnby Hall with my 2 kids and was absolutely delighted that I had. We were made to feel so welcome and wandered the grounds, met the pigs and had a great breakfast in the amazing hall. The accommodation was lovely and on a split level, so perfect for us. Overall, I would definitely return and would thoroughly recommend.

    • On route to Scotland our favourite stop off

Just left Johnby Hall following our most recent stop over with friends on our way to Scotland. I found this wonderful place several Years ago when looking for a beautiful, friendly, reasonably priced, yet truly dog and child friendly b&b with comfortable beds, proper bed linen and character - to stop at when travelling through Cumbria. Rare as hens teeth! Weve since tried to come up at least once a year and love driving through those gates knowing a warm welcome will be waiting, with tea and homemade cake! We walk the dogs through the woods, have a bath using the locally produced bath bombs and products left thoughtfully for guests use. Then we head to the Boot & Shoe in the village which is so welcoming, does great food and has an enviable gin selection worthy of a London wine bar! Breakfast at Johnby is always a treat, sitting in the family Manorial Hall you get a sense of history and we love chatting with Anna and Henry and the lovely Lucy and kitchen hand Nicholas:) Eating locally produced and free range food is a must for us and here you can see the animals and then enjoy sausages bacon and eggs knowing where its come from and how its been kept! Five star enjoyment and we would never stay anywhere else in this part of the world.
