Stayed here on 31st May night on our way to Ashburton NZ. Very basic amenities - but clean place. Everything in the room was working. They do not have a Restaurant and therefore Breakfast items Bread, Butter, jam, Fruits, Juice, Milk, Corn Flakes etc.were kept in the room. It was quite sufficient to start the journey next day. Those with grownup kids in our Group had tough time as the Beds were too small for a family of four. Manager was quite helpful. WiFi was excellent.

We recently stayed at this complex and had a nice time. The room was on the smaller side but it was clean and tidy and had everything we needed for a one night stay. Basic kitchenette, tea, coffee and milk etc supplied. The bed was very comfortable and even though the complex was fully booked we didn't hear a peep from any other guests or road noise. It was lovely a quiet so our sleep qaulity was 10/10. Chargeback facilities available for nearby eaterys which was also bonus. The shower was the rooms best feature by far. massive water pressure and inside a shower dome so it was super relaxing. Towels and linen all of superior quality. Good friendly and helpful hosts . I would go 4.5 star rating. Just some minor things to get a whole hearted 5 star. Plenty of tight squeeze carparking, although when the carpark was almost full it was very difficult to navigate with our car. Some of the chatels were slightly worn in our room, e.g needs a new toilet seat and suspect fridge, it was very clunky and our milk was warm for the morning coffee haha! Over all we were very inpressed and would highly recommend this venue to stay

    • One of the best showers.

Stayed here for only one night. A comfortable bed, and good room. But the shower would be one of the best. The pressure was great, and never faulted. Also, some thing new for me, is the shampoo, body wash, and conditioner dispenser, in the shower. A easy walk to the town and eateries. A good stay.

    • Why are NZ Motels so unbearably hot?

So, before anyone gets overly exercised about the title, let me make it clear that our stay at the Bella Vista was fine. It is, as other reviewers have noted, a good quality motel near the central part of town. It has modern comfortable furnishings and the owners are very warm and welcoming. However - it was virtually impossible to sleep because it was so hot. Now, let me be clear again - I am not criticising this one motel by itself. Rather, this otherwise fine motel is yet another example of motels throughout New Zealand that provide little in anything in the way of cooling. Yes, there are fans. No, the fans do not cool a room down. We put to use what we learned after living for 7 years in Cambodia - get a wet towel. Drape it over your face and body. Lie on the bed and let the fan evaporate the water. Repeat. NZ motels live in some kind of 1960's time where the concept of air-conditioning was novel. Most often the reason I get from owners is something along the lines of "it isn't usually this hot". Or, inaccurately, "It will cool down at night". The latter is infuriating because it is untrue. Yes, outside air temperatures may well cool down over night, but not inside. All day every single item in the motel has been absorbing heat. By the time you get to go to bed all that heat is radiating back out. It doesn't matter how cool the air is outside. A room that has been closed up all day while it is 30C outside will remain at around 25C all night. With no breeze. In contrast, I have never, in 7 years living in the USA, ever stayed in a motel that does not have a/c. If NZ motels expect to meet visitor expectations in a world that is getting rapidly warmer, with summer extremes breaking records, then owners need to invest in ways to keep clients comfortable. In answer to the comment that it isn't usually this hot. Well, to me that is irrelevant. I'm not "usually" staying in any specific motel. But I am staying tonight, and it is not a cheap stay. It is only tonight that matters. Not the other 350 days of the year. My choice of motel in NZ from now on over summer will depend on whether or not the rooms have air-conditioning. If not then I'm staying elsewhere. To our overseas visitors. I'm sorry, but if you want to sleep at night and the day time temperatures are above 25C then seek accommodation with an a/c. All that being said, I'm sure that on all the other days in Blenheim when it isn't so hot this must be a pleasant motel to make your home.
