    • New bistro is a welcome addition

      Reviewed 04 September 2019

The food was always good at the Beech Hill Country House restaurant but would have been more so in the fine dining category. The new owners have recently opened a much more relaxed bistro in what would have been the downstairs cellar to add to the dining experience. They have created a lovely atmosphere with great staff and great food at reasonable prices. We have eaten here on a number of occasions both for lunch and in the evening and the food has never failed to please. This is a must place for those who enjoy good food in relaxing surroundings. Im looking forward already to the next time!

Husband and I were here as part of our tour of the entire country- fantastic food at the Castro pub- 1622. The bartender knows his stuff- ask him about then quiet man whiskey. The hotel itself is a stylish country manor, with ties to the US marine core for a special twist. The rooms are sizable with tub and shower options (thank goodness for a tub again!) and the king size bed was one of the most comfortable I have ever laid in. With back issues constantly plaguing me, this was the biggest blessing! Go to this place! It is worth every penny!!!

    • Hen Party

I attended the same Hen party afternoon tea as the previous review. I however had a totally different experience. We arrived to stunning grounds, where a photographer captured the most beautiful images for the Bride to be. We then entered the dining area, and while it was true that there was a mix up with the number of seats reserved, it was quickly rectified. We had a lovely afternoon High Tea, decorated beautifully with a design of fruit and leaves, the food was absolutely beautiful. It is also true that, as the organiser of this hen party, I did request that there be no fish on the menu, as this was the personal preference of the ladies on the hen party, I was not informed at any stage that anyone suffered from an allergy to fish (anaphylaxis), when I pointed this out to the staff they immediately apologised and brought out replacement sandwiches. The top tier of desserts were to die for, and so plentiful that we took a box full of left over cakes home for the children. I would have no hesitation in recommending this beautiful hotel, and their lovely helpful staff.

I spent a couple of nights at Beech Hill House and loved it! The house itself, the setting, the history of the house, the breakfasts and of course the staff who were just great. I would recommend this hotel to anyone. Just lovely - and not to forget their pussy cat too! A wonderful place. Thank you

    • Hen afternoon tea

Very disappointed in afternoon tea within this hotel. Short on pastries, staff where informed on numerous occasion, this was never rectified. When we came in not enough seats for people booked. On booking it was highlighted no fish to be served due to a member of the party having anaphylaxis to same and unfortunately the first thing that was served was salmon.. absolutely disgusted. First time in the beechhill and honestly would not be rushing back. The only thing positive i could say about my experience was the bar tender jason, what an assett to the hotel, couldnt do enough. Otherwise work needs to be done to this high star establishment .
