    • Disappointing stay

      Reviewed 12 August 2019

We stayed for 7 nights in August, in a 'Deluxe' double room with a balcony at a cost of 1080 Euros, in the Lange Veerstraat 6 location. Be aware that this B&B is spread over several sites, and from the reviews, the buildings would appear to vary. The room was stifling and without air-con we had to run the fan provided 24/7, and found it very difficult to sleep in such hot conditions. The balcony gave us an extra place to sit if the weather allowed, although you are surrounded by many other households, and shared their cooking smells, and arguments! The room was sparsely furnished with a small hanging rail with 4 hangers, so lived mostly out of our suitcases on the floor. Beds not particularly comfortable, but bathroom good, although you do need to mop the floor of water after a shower. Great coffee machine, and small fridge you could use. We had pre-paid for breakfast that came in a box, that was delivered to your room. Contents very nice, but requested delivery time not always adhered to. On the last day when we were off to the airport the box didn't arrive at all. On checkout we mentioned this but no explanation could be found. On the whole the staff were friendly and welcoming, but felt they were understaffed and therefore under pressure. Haarlem was great, and room in a good location.

    • Friendly owner and ultimately good stay

      Reviewed 29 July 2019

OK I can actually reconcile the positive and negative reviews about this b&b (a rare situation!). I had to change my booking, and the first night my own family (we had 3 rooms - an extended family) had to stay in a different room. While the room was nice, they hadn't had anyone in there for a few days, and due to some problem with the water level, it smelled of sewage. It was also located off of the main square, and thus the noise was terrible very late into the night. This would not normally be a problem for us, but my son and I were feeling sick from the smell and unable to sleep. I sent several emails to complain (they aren't there at night - and you have to arrange check in if you will arrive after business hours), and I went to talk to them in the morning. They were apologetic and when I mentioned we were going out to find breakfast (as it wasn't included in the apartment stays), they invited all 10 of us to have breakfast and talk to the owner. This wound up being the highlight of the stay - he was very nice, and apologetic, and offered us free breakfast for all 3 days of our trip. My family LOVED talking to him each morning and felt really welcomed and comfortable. The apartment I was moved to after the first night was better - the space wound up working out, though it was tight for 4 people. My extended family was all in the same building, though I felt like their units were not quite as nice, and getting into the building was a little weird (through an alley). SO, to sum up, the reviews I had read that said the rooms were really historic and they loved Haarlem and loved this owner and having breakfast included ... were right. The people complaining that their units were not quite what they thought (either smaller, or not as historic or nice, or noisy, etc.) were ALSO right since it depends very much on the unit you have, and also breakfast is not included (normally) with the apartments. We loved the small feeling of Haarlem, we were well located next to restaurants, the town center, and the train was not too far a walk (maybe a little more than 5 minutes) - and fairly easy to navigate to get into Amsterdam (only a 15 min. ride). We were able to get a full list of parking options from the b&b - which included two that were only a 10 minute walk away and free - so that also worked out for us. I also inquired about laundry, since we were on a long trip, and they offered to do one load for us for free! To summarize, we would stay here again. My family loved the owner, the staff really tried to be helpful (though they are not always available as in a hotel), and the units do vary in quality. You also get more of that small personalized b&b experience if you can get breakfast included in your stay (it is an expensive add-on if you have an apartment, rather than a b&b room). So choose carefully what you are looking for and communicate with the staff/owners ahead of time. My family enjoyed our stay!

I booked this property thinking it was true B&B. Its more like a hostel or AIR BNB. These are rooms set up in different type of office buildings not welcoming properties. Overpriced, breakfast not included. Only saw hotel representatives 2x on 4 night stay. Charged total stay upfront before seeing rooms. Too expensive for what it is. Found glass with cigarette butt in our room upon checking in.

    • Small, dirty and very noisy

      Reviewed 21 October 2018

We had hoped for a boutique apartment experience paying 190 for 1 night in lovely Haarlem but were bitterly disappointed since the place not only was very small and dirty but incredibly noisy. The facilities were very basic and the room felt stuffy and not particularly well maintained. The owner was very unwelcoming since our arrival was delayed to after 6pm, unforeseen due to 2 major RTAs on the motorway trip from the UK.

    • A friendly and comfortable B&B

      Reviewed 02 October 2018

This place is right in the heart of Haarlem, very well placed for visiting the huge cathedral and the Frans Hals House. Breakfast was nicely presented, in another building about 5 min walk away. I misunderstood the owner when he told me there was plenty of "free parking" in the neighbourhood. This does not mean "gratis" parking, merely "available parking". Parking in Holland is very expensive!......Otherwise, no complains.
