If you are traveling to Honduras, will be in the general La Ceiba area and you are looking for opportunities to spot nature and enjoy adventure, look no further than La Mosquitia Ecoaventuras! We have made two trips with Jorge Salaverri and his team now and they are superb in every way! Jorge is a passionate pioneer, nature enthusiast and adventure seeker who will safely and carefully expose you to the very best of Honduras, its people, nature, culture and environment. From quietly paddling in the reserve to spot monkeys and birds, to white water rafting, zip lining, hiking and more! He is the person to contact!! Our first trip with Jorge was to the Rio Platano Biosphere where we camped and white water rafted for 10 days through some of the most beautiful areas in the world. Jorge has championed the efforts of the local indigenous people to protect their land and he is a legend in this area. The person you want to make this trip with if you can!!!! Our second trip was a family trip that included family members with some physical limitations. Jorge rose to the occasion for our family and made it possible for all of us to be included in all of the activities. The planning that went on behind the scenes to make this a flawless 7 day program was truly unreal. A friend for life and the very best in the business!!

We had an awesome time rafting rio Cangrejal with La Moskita. Victor pur guide was vary perfessional and ensured that we were safe at all times. Before we started on the river he went over all the safety instructions and paddling commands. We had so much fun the first day we decided to go rafting again with them on the upper half of the river the next day. Rio Cangrejal is one of the most stunning rivers i have ever been on.(we also had the opportunity to swim in the river which i really enjoyed) I have to say that this has been the best rafting experiance i've ever had !! I've been rafting in Costa Rica on 4 different river but rafting with La Moskita on Rio Cangrejal has exceed my expectations . They have vary knowledgeable guides and Jorge the owner is AWESOME !! I can't wait to return and maybe even try white water kayaking ! We also got some awesome photos/vidoes of our experiance thanks to Emilio the kayaker!!! We also found that they are the best priced compared to other rafting operators in the area. And the guides are locals to the area.

    • Amazing team!

We did the half day rafting with Victor, Dennis and Emilio, and we had such a great time. Even the organisation beforehand was smooth, we just messaged on FB. They picked us up on time and were nice and chatty. On the river Victor was an excellent guide and knowledgeable about the birds and plants etc. We couldn't have asked for a better trip. Would highly recommend to anyone who's nearby! Thanks guys!!

    • Legit, unique & stunningly beautiful outdoor life experience in the Rio Platano Biological Reserve

      Reviewed 27 May 2018

This was a legit, unique and stunningly beautiful outdoor life experience in the Rio Platano Biological Reserve. Jorge is a wealth of information and a lover of the land, his country and its people. Jorge taught us the Spanish, Latin and often the Miskut words for many plants, trees, and birds. His high energy, sincerity, and terrific attitude is infectious. If you are interested in an athletic outdoor adventure, meeting the indigenous people, and learning about the medicinal and botanical value of the local plants and trees, then he is your best guide and resource. The cinematically picturesque river rides and machete lead treks through the jungle were challenging, even though Jorge gave us flotation devices to use as seat cushions and stopped frequently when he pointed things out to us during the walks, but worth every effort. We trekked over tree trunks, through half dried mud and areas of slashed and burned, still smoldering jungle (absolutely heart breaking) that the cattle herders unsustainably and illegally take to seed grass for their cattle. We tiptoed along the narrowest of little paths winding their way through mountains looking down steep edges at the breath taking, grand river view. We lunched by and swam in beautiful pristine river (for now still unpolluted), and were treated to so much eye candy: gnarly monkey vines, hummingbird nests, huge colorful flowering trees, statuesque White Tamarind trees, tons of birds and flowers, and fascinating petroglyphs carved in granite against a jungle green backdrop. Our wonderful hosts and local Miskut guides were kind and patient and we had plenty of food for breakfast and dinner. We stayed in a super clean open air, Bed and Breakfast in Las Marias, raised on stilts, overlooking the river, with an outhouse and outhouse shower (which means a huge pail of water and a bowl to toss it on yourself), mattresses and mosquito nets and were quite comfortable. We went during the dry season so there were no mosquitos. Overall an unforgettably beautiful, soul nourishing, educational, eco-adventure life experience. I highly recommend you bring everything on the recommended bring list. I used everything I brought. And bring an extra charging battery for your phone.

    • Great rafting trip

      Reviewed 04 May 2018

We really enjoyed our rafting trip with La Moskitia. The river was a little low so as well as rafting, we went on a river hike, wading and swimming upstream and jumping and body surfing on the way back down which actually added to the experience. Jorge was an interesting and enthusiast host and the setting of his lodge amongst trees overlooking the river was beautiful. We stayed in a tent and it was very comfortable. The only downside was the lack of food options. Unless you've brought snacks, your only option is to eat at the lodge. While plentiful we felt it was a bit overpriced.
